[Doctor Who] I've heard good things about Jon Pertwee's first season, and while I plan to get it on BluRay whenever that comes out, I think I'll preview it by watching "Spearhead from Space".
I'm surprised to learn it's only four parts; I thought it was seven.
I really should do a better job at keeping track of writes these episodes. I thought Robert Holmes sounded familiar; I looked into it, and he wrote Terror of the Autons, Pyramids of Mars, the Brain of Morbius, and the Deadly Assassin, among many others.
Liz Shaw must be very confused to be meeting the Brigadier, and within a few minutes, hearing him tell a soldier "I want an armed guard put on that police box at once!"
Pertwee's reaction to the Doctor seeing his new face is great.
The Doctor is very obsessed with his shoes haha
It's a little weird to not hear the cliffhanger stinger before the credits. (I think that also applied to at least one of Pertwee's other seasons, which has me curious when it was included)
There's something unsettling about the doll assembly line.
I'm surprised the Autons (if they are the Autons) can talk; they've been mute from what I recall.
Didja notice his little tattoo in the shower scene?
Pertwee was in the Royal Navy...transferred off of HMS Hood before she sailed to meet hte Bismarck.
I haven't gotten to that scene yet, but I'll keep an eye out! (The Doctor's currently unconscious after being shot)
I just saw it; funny coincidence that it looks sort of like a question mark.
It feels so weird to see blood in classic Who. (in this case, after the car crash)
The dog in the house of the man who found the meteorite sounds like a person saying "Arf! Arf! Ruff!" over and over.
I'm not sure if it's creepier or less creepy that you can see the Auton's actor blink under a layer of plastic.
On to part 4 - I like the visible difference between the army higher-up and his Auton counterpart, though it raises the question of how anyone could fall for it when the duplicate looks so clearly plasticky.
I like Liz Shaw as a companion so far.
When it cut to Madame Tussaud's, I was expecting that we'd get an Auton JFK or an Auton Nixon.
I feel like the scene in Madame Tussaud's at night made a generation of kids scared of statues/mannequins.
The Autons are killing a lot more people than what I'm used to seeing from them.
(then again, it's been a while since I watched the episode Rose, or Terror of the Autons for that matter)
"A thousand million years" seems like an odd way to say "a billion".
I feel like Jon Pertwee's disappointment at having to return the car that the Doctor took from the hospital wasn't entirely acting. (I know he's a big fan of cars - by my understanding, one of his last episodes was one long chase scene partially for that reason)
He's so excited to pick out a car. (which I can only assume is going to be Bessie)
I love his smile at "Smith. Doctor John Smith" like he thinks it's the most clever thing in the world.
Finished! Great episode, and I'm definitely going to pick up that season set whenever it comes out. (looking up The Collection on the Doctor Who wiki, it looks like that will be June 3rd, though I think season 20's North American release wound up getting delayed at least once)
