There's an avatar welcome pack?
yes, it's in your library, with a few skins and shapes (from Lelutka and someone else). I hadn't changed anything in my avatar since... 13 years maybe?
Same here. Is this starter pack mesh, then?
i'm honestly not sure if it is mesh or mush
it's stripped down Legacy bodies (the real one, just no hud- so BoM alpha, and also it's got wacky nails that sometimes work and sometimes don't as they did a whole new thing there) and LeLutka heads (again no HUD, and may be slightly more restrictive on shape than the full versions) for men and women. plus some skins, hair, clothing from big brands to
make them full, modern, and semi compatible with the current popular stuff.
(i personally think they should have put a little more effort into it, that lack of a tutorial is part of the issue, as is some of the use limitations that are going to confuse people who don't already know what is going on and probably already own the full versions of equivalent if not the same items- especially with the bodies)
so i see it as almost a great thing. but it doesn't quite make it the way it should have.
It doesn't for example, make me want to buy more. I can settle with what I have.
It doesn't give me confidence that I'd know how to put my own together... and some of it doesn't work. Overall I'm pleased but would like a little more. Even a YouTube link to some SL blogger who explains stuff.
the body limitations are kind of designed to eventually make you want to upgrade when you keep being annoyed by it too often, by design i'm absolutely sure. how successful that will be is anyone's guess- some will just live with it, i would probably be so annoyed by it that i would go to a different brand because i wouldn't trust the full version to not
but by then, the assumption is that you will be locked in by your legacy closet. as long as you mostly bought from places that don't divide it up by body though, you'll end up with alternatives for most things.
and, once again, it's also hampered by how complicated they have allowed the system to become
Well it is doing that for me, and I've been wanting to upgrade for a long time but was kind of overwhelmed by even the clear video tutorials on how to build the avatar.
But having said that, will I want to continue on buying in a week, 2, 10, A year? Who knows.
Oh the more motivating factor will be to run into people who all look the same.
one of the advantages is that most clothing for the "full" legacy bodies will also fit. alphas become the issue, which gets into the "too complicated for a beginning" problem. assuming you don't get into anything cut unusually though, it may be a non issue for men, as i think i saw alpha cuts in the library which should be made around the nail issue.
(and male clothing in general tends to be more forgiving, as long as you're sticking to the more "traditional" suits/pants/shirts options)
the lack of support was the biggest issue for senra (also they weren't particularly pretty)- this just gets into rolling the dice on body support on a case by case basis with things generally being weighted in your favor, more or less. which is still not fantastic? but with bom we should have already been transitioning to clothing layer alphas.
(and then you just get into the nails issue)
(and skins are vaguely similar- again the issue is nails. i'm sure someone will release a basic nail set on the pants and jackets layers to allow any skin that otherwise fits)
you are a jacuzzi of knowledge
