The book was groundbreaking in that for the first time, someone thought to ask the women veterans of WW2 in the Soviet Union about their war experiences and record it.

I appreciate the manga showing the moments in which the interviewer notices that the woman she's interviewing looks like they're back in the war once they recount their stories as them turning younger again.
