I never did it, but from what I hear it's Ugh.
Gachas = a good way to make $, a bad way to run a business/treat customers. Here is a better idea: I will never extort you for wanting my work;
• I make a thing.
• I put it for sale.
• If you want the thing, you click, pay for it and...
• You GET the thing you wanted.
How revolutionary.
Not to mention the hell about to be unleashed on the MP. Good luck finding anything amongst the dozens of pages of commons/recolors.
I've seen people wondering why they would bring it back. Why do companies that own casino properties open casinos? Why does gambling exist? It is a way to make money. Even better if you are not directly involved with the operation of the casino, you just profit from it existing on your property.
This will be a bump to the economy, both in world and on marketplace. LOTS of new microtransactions, new traffic, new logins, new concurrency.
They get a piece of purchased L$, purchased gachas, uploads of those gacha items, the regions the gachas are on, the sale of those L$ to cashout. The listing of the resales on MP, the purchase of those L$ to buy the items from MP, the sales of those items on MP, the cashout from those MP sales.
No idea how much that means, but for certain its more than without gachas.
They are not doing it because they love gachas, but because we used to and the assumption is we will again.
It is a win/win for them.
No rules to police adherence to, no direct involvement with any of all of those processes. Just managing SL and the SL MP, which they already do.
Would you like more money for doing exactly what you already do?
I can't say I blame them, but at the same time, I don't relish gachas return.
I remember you posting that somewhere else , that you sell people exactly what they want. Gacha is fun for the same reason those little quarter machines were fun.
personally I won't play them.
i sort of liked them for fun cute weird things. that's not what they tended to be once they became so popular, it was just dividing up a regular set someone would do into a random number of micro transactions. early gacha though had some neat stuff, and often i would be happy with any one thing in the machine.
the transfer part was always problematic- it was good for giving gifts to people, i did enjoy that, but i don't trust the SL servers with no copy as a format.
