hello everyone! i know PSL finder is new, but i would like to know what would make it something you all would use. would a format similar to emp's PSL ads be preferable?
make it more like emp?

if you have any other feedback that would help make it a meme you're more likely to use, please feel free to leave it here in this plurk or leave it here

always!
At a glance: the header/form requirements on pslfinder contains information that would be useful IF I end up pursuing a lengthy PSL with someone, but seems kind of...rigid in terms of a meet and greet sort of meme?
You know about EMP, and the recent roll call meme both have a bigger turnout than you did, and they're both more shit-posty sort of environments.
Given that you're PSL community attempt #2 that I know of, there's obviously a demand for the meme you're providing.

I am feeling very stupid, but I'm not entirely certain what you mean by emp's PSL ad mechanics.
My turnoff- and I'm only one person, so I'm just speaking for me. (We're on the internet, I gotta stress that because reading comprehension, social media.) My turnoff in relation to your community would be that I usually develop PSL ideas with whomever I'm writing with, so I'd get mentally exhausted by the time I hit 'seeking' on your form.
Just the overall rigidity of it. People's mileage may vary, but that's probably why I never bothered to use this comm.

it does feel a lot like Work
And then throw in the general success rate for getting a thread going in general, and yeah.

I'm one of the people who prefers to give lots of information up front when searching for a psl and appreciates when others provide a lot as well, mostly because I tend to favor crosscanon and few people usually know my characters.
Sure, but I'd counter that by saying there's a difference between being forced to use a lengthy form, and you choosing to use a lengthy form.
Or to put it another way, if the community requirements insisted on you keeping it brief and kept you from being lengthy, would you not chaff at that restriction?
(The form itself isn't too lengthy, pslfinder mod, I'm just trying to be very very clear on what I'm saying might be the problem - it's not 'information good' or 'information bad,' it's a suggestion that the community might be rather rigid.)

my only thought is that if you were to change it to be similar to emp's, then why not just use emp's, since it already gets a lot of traffic? (thinking) having a separate comm needs to add something unique, like different requirements or more frequent posts

I'm just saying I like that this comm is trying to get people to share more information at the start, whereas other comms do not. I think it's a feature of this comm rather than a flaw.

It sounds like to some people it would be a feature, and to others it would be a flaw. Each approach as discussed above has its fans and non-fans. Perhaps adding flexibility into the form by having both the lengthy version and the short version as options for the participants to utilize according to their preference?

That way participants can use the version of the form that appeals to them more and this way fans of each can participate without balking at having to use the form that goes against their preferences

the only thing that stood out to me immediately as a question mark is why one character per ad

but also isn't there a psl section of emp already? unless i'm mistaken

gravesinger: there is a psl section on emp, but I think the timing of psl finder is to fill the gap between emp posts, since traffic dies down after the first week

and there were some comments about things like empty canon headers and stuff being depressing when this first got launched.

by-character seems like an easy way to browse a psl meme

the bakerstreet psl finder often doesn't serve me because everyone groups up their chars together and it's hard to browse

plus there's no actual threading to test out writing chemistr

so like maybe one char per top level + psl ideas listed out as "prompts" that people could just reply to and start a thread based on to see if its' a good vibe would be ideal tbh

I like that idea.

menacing: I can remove any subject requirements besides character name/canon, and make a few other sections optional. I didn't mean for it to feel rigid or anything like that, I was mostly trying to make it easier for people to more easily catch things they're interested in at a glance instead of having to go ad by ad

chayot: yes! this was my concern. in the past, myself and others had some good success with the psl call meme that was geared towards a single character with specific 'hey I'm looking for this' instead of 'here's everything I got, let's try and see what we can work out together' you have with emp's larger and more inclusive ads

inthetatras: what would you consider a 'short' form? genuinely asking so I can make some tweaks!

I was basing it on the description in someone else's comment above mine about not liking having to fill out details on the PSL ideas in the form since some people prefer to develop those ideas after picking a PSL partner

gravesinger: the one character per ad was part of pslcall that used to be posted until the mod stepped away from it. I wanted to keep that to help keep the divide between this and emp and help people get more specific with what they're looking for. I did change it to be one character or idea per ad after some feedback before the first meme went up

also as taintedcrimson said, to fill the gap between emp posts since it's not always the best timing for some people and traffic does die down
