[Mute] I'm SO frustrated with my keyboard right now
latest #23
I have a fancy mechanical keyboard, it's a GMMK v1 I bought on sale a while back and it didn't give me any problems until after I moved
now I'm both in a desert + the couch I bought is velvet so both of those mean I build up static like a motherfucker
but the thing is. I had a humidifier running during the winter and it didn't help. It's 36% humidity in here right now, which isn't super great but shouldn't be terrible either.

and my poor mechanical keyboard has a metal case so, even though I can discharge on my desk, I forget often enough that it's frustrating when a static shock on the keyboard freezes my computer.
y'all don't know how long I've spent trying to google how to fix this, whether my computer is grounded properly etc etc and no one seems to have a better solution than 'keep a humidifier going' which didn't do a thing in the first place!
(I have a power strip plugged into a 3-pronged outlet... if the outlet's grounding is fucked up I'm honestly not sure what to do, I'm in an apartment with limited space and I'd have to entirely move this desk to get access to another outlet)
plus sometimes the keys have started not working..... and it's not because it's dirty, I cleaned this keyboard out a month and a half ago. it might be the shocks are damaging it
so at this point I don't see any other solution than to buy a cheap keyboard with a plastic case so I just.... won't shock my computer constantly.
it's just frustrating because this is the nicest keyboard I've ever owned and it was working great until I moved from a place with super high humidity to one with barely any humidity lmao
my PC is even on a slab of wooden pressboard and not directly on the floor, another thing that should be protecting it from shocks, and it just isn't!!!
uggghhh
like I legit just walked to my kitchen and back earlier and shocked my computer into freezing again, it's ridiculous
at least I can buy myself an aesthetic purple plastic keyboard or something but I'm still annoyed that I can't find a way to fix this beyond.... idk a static mat that will be more expensive than a new keyboard??
I have plain regular desk mats but static mats have a ground attached so I can't use what I already have either
I guess if anyone has recommendations for nice mechanical keyboards with plastic cases that I'll take them, but that's kind of a weird combo lmao
also I prefer full size keyboards and I swear most of the mechanical ones out there are minis, rip
sad that this one is both tiny and expensive
I've more or less settled on getting a Redragon keyboard, it's a budget-friendly mechanical keyboard brand and the full size Faye K685 looks pretty nice
the color scheme isn't bad but I might swap out the keycaps for something more fun I saw some excellent ones in Reddit builds, it looks like you can get all kinds of decorative ones

and as a bonus this is a $50 keyboard with hot swappable keys.... honestly great quality for the price
there's so many awesome keycap sets out there... and individual resin ones you can get to replace a single key too
