had a generally good day yesterday but at some point I got smacked with a feeling of lonely depression. dunno where it all came from

that kind of extended to today as I heard about some friends really going through hard times

to be honest there have been a lot to be depressed about.

I'm kinna going through a mental struggle with how much art I put out and if my slowness to make relatively basic pieces prevents me from being considered good

social media has been both good and also really bad for artists. it can give you the false sense that you should be churning out new, 100% completed pieces almost daily and that's just not the case. art takes time and there's no rushing it.

seasaltalchemist: yea I know. its not hitting me as hard as it would use to, but I am recognizing my slowness. but there's another thing bothering me in relation to that.

my current art thing is a sort of design update for a ero character i semi came up with. and the reason I say '"semi" is because the ground work is based off another piece of media that my mind took and put it through a filter to make it "more original"

that said there are still some visual details that I kept over, and even their name is the same, but most everything else I came up with different stuff: origin, personality, some unique visual tidbits, but my gut is like "yea but they're not REALLY your OC" so I'm not sure how to present any art I do of them

at the moment, I'm just saying "this is the character" without really knowing what to call them in relation to me and what I've changed about them.

i guess that aspect had partially slowed me down a bit. doesn't help when getting input about a detail, one person in a discord server said "don't go with this version of horns cause then people will think its a <specific media> OC and you want to avoid that"

the funny thing is, that specific media WAS where the groundwork for the character came from so its like "well, I guess I'm screwed either way huh?"

I know not really but like, eesh, that comment really threw me off

"this is a character i adapted to be an oc" or "this is an oc i made inspired by ____" would probably cover what you're trying to convey

hmm... i suppose that kinna does cover it. I probably am overthinking it and likely no one actually gaf

also yeah like. if you hear a specific 'complaint' from ONE person, take it with a grain of salt. if you're hearing it from several people, that's when you pay attention to it

seasaltalchemist: it was kinda weird to hear that very suddenly. like, I've had people tell me how they straight up can't get into that media for one reason or another (usually its visuals and themes) and I sorta just go "yea, that makes sense" and go on with my day

and by themes, I mean, themes of religious trauma, familial abuse, and broken homes, which is uh... pretty heavy shit, so I get folks not being into that.

i'm curious what this media is that you keep mentioning

but like. just bc one, or even two, ppl are like "eh migh want to avoid association with this thing" doesn't necessarily make it true. there are more than 2 ppl that will tell you the earth is flat, for example. and we all know that is far from true

and from what you've described it doesn't sound like the thing is problematic in some way. so honestly have a happy and make all the refences/get all the inspo from it you want

when I asked the one person who said to avoid association, why not, they simply said "perverts and p*dos"

by that logic we should all be avoiding hxh (and nen impact) bc of the existence of hisoka

ah see i never touched sf6. watched my partner play a few matches but never picked it up myself. been excited for nen impact for awhile tho as i love hxh

FullOfBees: this one was from a friends discord server. Generally tho, they're pretty cool. I think they were just advising me to avoid something they deem problematic

seasaltalchemist: sf6 is pretty fun IMO, and the addition of Elena (who is a personal favorite character) coming back has me getting reacquainted with it again. also its a new balance patch tomorrow (that we still dunno whats gonna be changed) so thats exciting

maybe someday i'll give it a go. personally more into nen impact rn, and strive. at least as far as fighting games go. though until i dicked around in the demo of nen i hadn't touched a fighting game in months. just too much else on my plate

seasaltalchemist: no worries if you don't. its definitely a more grounded fighter that isn't as flashy or fast paced but there's a level of satisfaction when you out footsie your opponent and get a nice juicy punish for it.

yeah i enjoyed what i saw of it. just never found the time (or money) to pick it up when there were so many other games i wanted
