A friend of mine is obsessed with this game

He wants to start a guild of his old mmo buddies, me included

So he's been pinging NON STOP in this server for WEEKS

And now that early access is tomorrow he's like

I cannot the care

Don't get me wrong, I am excited about the game

But they have only allowed betas for the early game, there has only been closed NDA'd betas for even just mid-game

That's a bad sign

And zero info on late game besides You can pvp for spice

But why. What do I do with the spice

EAT IT? SURE. But then what...?

Just get better at pvp?

What's the end goal?

Also to note, if I do play, I want pvp. I want to be waste deep in pvp and I want parties specifically for pvp

This group is not all in on pvp, some are allergic. WHICH I UNDERSTAND

Coming from BDO, I get that. I used to run a life skill guild that just.......... happened to adopt crazy pvp veterans so we ended up looking stronger than we were lol

But............................

Okay, the friend told me. Like a whole DM for this reason told me that half of the group wants pvp

That is lovely. But. Breathing pvp and wants pvp are different things...

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Until the end game loop is known, played, understood, I'm not buying it lol

Give me goals. Give me forts to defend. Give me territories to run. Give me PoIs with our flag on it. These are the things I want for pvp end game. Not just TEE HEE stab.

The deep desert, where pvp is always on, is 9 squares. 1 square is the size of the entire conan exiles world iirc

Each COLUMN of this 9 square grid can hold 100 players

9x the size of conan but only 300 people? Are you kidding me?

There's ecolabs which are dungeons that have rotating drops each week

MY GUESS is people will zero in on one ecolab that has something preferred, good stats or more marketability and just CAMP it

LAUNCH DAY for those who decided to spend $70 on a survival crafting not-mmo lol

I popped in to see what friends were up to and watched them stream for a bit

All they did on stream was die to dehydration because they went into a PoI unprepared lol

I usually enjoy story, but I can already tell that I am going to get frustrated really quickly by the story in this game

Not because it's bad, but because skills are gated behind story and quests

So friend was aiming to do story so he could get his 3rd skill unlocked

And I'm sitting here like Why are levels not good enough

I am not used to this set up so that may be why I'm so critical

I will say I am interested in getting it, just for the exploration elements

But fuck spending 70 bucks to play today, that's insane

They had to create new servers for NA and EU due to unpredicted popularity

And like all mmo titles, in about 6 months, those servers will merge and it'll be a whole thing

Reasons why multi-server games are so frustrating

I am BDO biased but one world, multiple channels, sure. But multiple servers always backfires

Especially when you can't hop servers like you can hop channels

One channel is busy, you hop over, nbd

But with these games you are tied and anchored and there's no hopping to alleviate population or to find population

it dumb me sad

Friends have just made their first ornithopter which means they can access the Deep Desert which is the open world pvp zone

The obsessing guy got frustrated with me lol because I was like "Ya, so tell me when you get there if you actually fight anyone"

And he was like DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE DEVS STREAM

lol sir. What they want you to see and what you actually see are very different

So I asked them for a time they'll definitely be online tomorrow and the obsessive guy's brother and my other friend have offered to stream their time in the Deep Desert

Actually concerned it's just sand and random pois

If it goes horribly... saves me money I guess

So they have the ornithopters

But now they're like We don't wanna go into the deep desert until we're max geared/max leveled

What's the point if you already have the things

I'm pretty sure the gear they need or uniques they want are gonna be in the deep desert

Passives alone can help but it's not gonna save you in pvp if you get ganked

Apparently, you can also just stand on someone's ornithopter and go with them np

So you can pile on a bunch of friends and they can just shoot things from the top while you fly around

To make matters worse (better?) you can literally put an ornithopter on top of an ornithopter

So while you are standing on top of a friend's ornithopter, you can place your own MID FLIGHT on top of theirs and then just........ fly off

That's dumb

Hopefully that will get fixed

But their method of communication is way more interesting than people in a discord server shouting item demands for the thing they're building

The game is very immersive with its sandstorms and the worm and the music

I watched someone play with no commentary and it was more enjoyable than anything with commentary

And I'm already a bit frustrated lol

Skills are locked behind quests

Items and research are locked behind quests

So unless you do quests, you don't get very far

I would much rather wander and run from shai hulud than do these quests

I am not compelled by this story at all lol

But currently, the story seems to be You are a prisoner. A guy shoots your prisoner ship out of the sky. You survive the crash landing because he decided not to kill just you??

He lies to you and says he has no idea how on Arrakis your ship crashed. WHO KNOWS.......

And he helps you escape the ... Harkonnen that are trying to check what happened to the ship

And now you have to fend for yourself but the Spice is like YOU HAVE A DESTINY~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is an AU where Paul Atreides was never born, does not exist. But his sister does

And somehow you are the fill-in for the non-existent Paul

Anyway. The first trial was like SUFFERING IS THOUGHT. THOUGHT IS SUFFERING.

I wouldn't mind the story or the quests

But as it stands

The sun can kill me

The worms can kill me

The scavengers can kill me

And you want me to trek 5000 (measurement here - probably meters) to the next quest location?

Are you kidding me.

These things are totally doable, but they are so time consuming for a quest that just has me talk to an npc, jump through a hoop and then have to run all the way back to base

You can have up to 3 bases

So I think the game wants you to move your base with you

Basics for a base take very little set up

So I might just leap frog bases around the basin while I deal with these quests

So I made a character on Asia to play with my SEA friends from BDO

But now it's saying there are no Asia servers......................

That's..... bad

Apparently it's a known issue

Verifying files fixed it

LOL I logged in and got smacked in the face by a sandstorm IMMEDIATELY

Yeah... the quests are..... annoying

I like the scattered lore but locking everything behind quests is infuriating

I had a quest to go to a trading post so naturally I visited other PoIs on my way there

Turned in the trading post quest only to be told I need to visit the PoIs I just went to for the next quest

Well my inventory is full, the loot will take at least an hour to respawn

I may as well go back to base

So I trudge all the way back to base, drop off everything aaand

Now I'm too annoyed to go back out lol
