Here's hoping it's actually good, ArcSys been kinda dropping the ball on actual gameplay quality the past while
... has it? GBFV and Strive are both still doing really well
catgrumps: Dunno if I agree with that sentiment. I'm enjoying Strive, GBFV and while I don't play it anymore DBFZ was pretty darn fun
Strive's fallen off in terms of fans of it as like a competitive fighting game
...i always forget GBFV and DBFZ was ArcSys
GBFV and fighterZ is arcsys, but fighterZ was released in 2018 and gbfv is, as said, doing really well
I think Cross Tag Battle just flashbanged me
i strongly disagree with "strive's flalen off" too
like i get it's not everyone's cup, but it's still the most played GG game and it's not even close
I have two different groups I'm friends with and one tells me the games are bad and the other tells me the games are good and the standard is very confusing to know who is correct
both are anecdata, but there are objective factors to consider, namely; are strive tournaments still big events (yes) and are people still playing strive (yes, quite a lot, actually)
there is a tendency in the FGC for people to treat the games they don't like as irrelevant
(or, conversely, for people to treat the game they love as being more worthy of praise than other, more popular games)
They aren't saying they're irrelevant they're saying they aren't well received in terms of competitive balanced gameplay with good netcode and regular updates.
yeah then they're just straight up lying, idk what to tell you
cause I brought up Fighterz and GBFV to them and like...fights hasn't had an update, and apparently GBFV 1.5 was very bad
catgrumps: Honestly, I think every longish running fighting game is like that
like it's not a matter of numbers to them at all
They will have their fans that will say how bad the game is and how they're hoping the game is fixed in the next patch and likely think it won't
like i'm not saying everyone has to like the game but saying it's not well received is just. not true
Tekken 8 just went through this with season 2 (which to be fair, wasn't a good start to the season) but it's gotten better over the months
i think strive is still comfortably the third or fourth most popular active competitive game right now
maybe it isn't well received in the competitive circles cause I know Strive is more popular with more casual circles cause it's not as intense as other anime fighters by a mile, cause you can compare it to you know...the other GG games
no it's. well received in competitive circles as well.
Yea and when you're competing with juggernauts like Street Fighter and Tekken, that's pretty good.
also you can just...watch the GG movies and not play the actual game and still like it.
also they are SUPER focused on like...update disparity

like, to put it simply, if your game is still among evo's eight main stage games, you're still well received in competitive circles
and I do admit from watching Fighterz videos for a while because I was a fan of Lythero, that netcode was indeed absolute garbo
until like the rollback that came super duper late
does that mean it's well received or does it mean it has numbers because you have to admit comparing Mortal Kombat to the rest of those is kinda...
that said, that top eight still includes games that objectively failed to find much of an audience like mk1 and city of the wolves, so it's not like. a final word kind of thing, but it's still a better barometer than much else
mk1 was a flop, commercially, but still has a strong competitive scene thanks largely to the efforts of big personalities and advocates for the game like sonicfox
Yeah I dunno....i guess it's a matter of technical to face
and city of the wolves, well... the saudi money hasn't run out yet, i guess
Yeah I've seen how SonicFox plays MK
commerically, MK1 still made a lot of money, just not WB standards money
it's....not a good way to promote the game
MK is just up there for tradition at this point IMO
and I've seen how SonicFox plays OTHER games too so like...that also doesn't help MK's case
i was talking less about how he plays it and more about the size of his influence as a popular player and streamer
So like...SonicFox plays other games the way everyone plays games but in MK he just sorta...spams exploits
i don't really think those kind of details matter to most people, if i'm being completely honest
I think they matter a lot
in terms of like...game quality
i'm not saying they shouldn't matter to anyone, i'm just saying i don't think that's a factor that impacts at any kind of macro scale
mk1 didn't flop because of sonicfox
No but like him being "good" at it didn't help
i. really strongly disagree?
is my point, cause he's just using a part of the game being bad, with his personality, to promote the game's continued appearance
if popular players using cheap exploitable tactics were enough to measurably impact a game's actual success, halo would have never become the juggernaut it had been.
Honestly, the way you describe them "spamming exploits" is kinna just being a high level player. You use every tool you got if your goal it to win. If their opponent can't manage it, then well... that's on the opponent.
I feel like if there's no way to get around the bad mechanic then the game is bad regardless of everyone else's quality, and it sure doesn't make it fun to watch.
now if the game as a whole is crippled by these exploits, then yea, those exploits would need to be addressed, which most fighting game devs do
the game's lack of commercial success largely comes down to a lot of factors but i really don't think sonicfox using exploits would make up any real size of that pie chart.
like. mk1's struggles are extremely well documented at this point
if it's a question of quality of the game vs popularity then yeah games are good if we go by popularity, but if the game's bad then there's gonna be people more into the technical side of things focusing more on it in terms of reception.
like update regularity and balancing and what have you
i feel like that would all be issues regardless of a popular player evangelizing the game?
like i'm struggling to see the connection here
playing in a weird middle ground and started something over a meme
(i think my other friends might have some general-and valid-biases against Sony so that might not be helping either)
I mean, I think all the major console creating companies have some lousy business practices so... fair
