[Star Trek] it just hit me that it's been a few months since I last watched Star Trek, so I'm going to do that. I'm nearing the end of season 1 for The Next Generation. This disc has:
-The Arsenal of Freedom
-Symbiosis (think I've seen this one)
-Skin of Evil
-We'll Always Have Paris (I think this is a Holodeck episode; not sure how common those are)
The Arsenal of Freedom involves the planet Minos, so I'm expecting that someone will be caught in a labyrinth.
Picard takes a while to realize that he's talking to a recording.
I'm guessing Minos's weapons became intelligent and able to imitate people.
The exchange between Geordi and Troi was a nice bit of character building.
I like that Geordi gets a big moment at the end of the episode, though you'd think that deactivating the sales pitch would destroy the invisible drone.
Geordi's excitement over getting to say "Engage" is infectious.
I saw Symbiosis on TV not too long ago, so I'll skip that one. (It was all right - more of a moral dilemma, and Tasha's description of drugs continues the trend of her backstory being extremely dark, even if it was only implied that she was once addicted to something)
The Enterprise is dealing with a sentient oil slick, which is an interesting way to portray alien life. (Since a lot of the Star Trek aliens that I've seen are humanoid)
It can take on a humanoid form, though it's still a very different form of life compared to what I'm used to from the show.
Tasha Yar's dead, and it's not even a commercial break cliffhanger. I'd read that the actress wanted out of the series because she wasn't getting much to do, but I didn't think that it would happen so soon, or that she'd go out like a red shirt.
The shot of Riker covered in tar and being dragged beneath it is a disturbing one to kick off a commercial break.
Tasha's funeral scene was touching.
Starting the last episode on the disc, We'll Always Have Paris.
While the Holodeck is involved, this episode seems to be more about Picard's backstory.
I feel like the doctor, Manheim, is related to the woman that Picard ditched, given that Picard didn't give his name.
I liked getting a peak into Picard's early life.
