like, do you just read the most recent tag you got back, and reply directly to that? do you load the thread from a dozen or so tags back and at least skim them to make sure you're keeping the context of what's being said, and the flow of the conversation coherent and all that?
I'm trying to focus enough to reply back to a tag, tired as I am tonight, and find myself constantly spending time looking upthread to make sure things are consistently coherent and I'm not misinterpreting something, and.... had a moment of wondering how many other people tend toward doing likewise, I guess?
I know it probably really depends on the thread, too. is it a serious, philosophical conversation? a stupid argument about whether it's duck season or wabbit season unimportant nonsense?
really depends a lot on the thread and how clear it already is in my head; i'll often go upthread one or two just so i can sanity check myself, but if it's a more complicated conversation or the amount of time passing in-character is important etc i'll sometimes go farther
or sometimes if it's very bantery back-and-forth dialogue i'll go back farther to make sure i've got the trajectory
also if the tag pace has been very slow or there's been a hiatus out whatever i'll often reread the thread from the start to get myself warmed up and on the right wavelength
yeah, totally fair. scale the effort with the weight of the tags and length of time between them sort of thing?
yeah, for me it's a very "when in doubt" thing
I find I reread pretty often, honestly. some threads are quick to skim, but.... hmm. maybe putting that kind of effort into it is one of the reasons I take so long to tag in the first place. XD
if I'm confident I remember enough I'll just go for it, but if I question myself too much I'll go back a few tags just to see the recent arc of things
but I do at least make it easy on myself? I tend to open each thread in a new tab... but it does mean I have a ton of tabs... and keep losing them. oops....
Usually just pull up the tag, if it’s a recent tag. If it’s older, I’ll re-read the whole thread. If I want a detail from an earlier tag, I’ll backtrack ‘till I find it and go from there.
if it's a texting thread, i just read the last tag i got back and then tag that
but it's longer tags, and it's somewhat ship-adjacent, i need to read it back
dialogue tags are easy to fire back fast, so if it's something like "Hey Network, are hot dogs a sandwich?" typically as fast as I get them I fire back to at least three people
deep lore meme or PSL tags can take, A While to Craft and so it makes sense to read about four to six tags back because that's Two to Three Turns Ago
but if you go too far back you can just, get, performance anxiety? maybe that's just me
"Oh no I was so good at this and now look at me, the Clown Empress who can't sentence suddenly wtf"
but yeah a quick reread of multi-character thread will also have you make sure that like, Mario is talking to Luigi, Peach, AND Toad and not just firing back straight to Luigi since there's a turn order and flow.
texting tags and ecats tags are easy UNTIL you get stuck on what the character would actually Do There and those you just, close the tab in shame and never return
I also need to read back because I forget I already had a character do a thing in an earlier tag and that they did it again in the newest one oops
oh, wow. trying to remember the last time I was in a game/somewhere in which I had a char who was using a network, and.... completely blanking.
I think that was... Strings? holy cow.... XD
I guess I lean heavily toward actual logs, lmfao
like, I seriously cannot call up anything more recent. I don't think there's been anything more recent. technically I have one char who could use a network, but she's just like, oh right, phones. I keep forgetting about that thing. where'd I leave it, again....?
(does not help that she's ignoring it half on purpose because otherwise she'll get caught up in the lil games on it, and she's aware of this. XD)
It depends how long it's been since the last reply? If it's actively in my memory I'll only read back reply or two. If I don't have it actively in my memory I'll skim to jog my memory and read several more in depth. But for long/involved plots that I'm really engaged in there's also a chance I've been randomly rereading it while not tagging just for funsies
....
I default to the reply to mine before the current one, but will go back further if it's a complex scene or if it's been a while.
