Found the culprit! The conventional wisdom was right, it’s the microwave main interlock microswitch. Seven bucks and I’m back in business, hopefully. Well, and a new faston too.
You're braver than I. Some things I will disassemble and repair (replaced the belt and seal on an electric dryer a few years ago), but I think I'd shy away from opening a microwave.
I have learned one can repair most things as long as there's an online community for it. My one exception is do not dismantle devices reliant on springs!
