I've done it a couple of times using kmplayer. But I'm too lazy to not just let it autocap, so I don't know how well it works if you're doing it more manually.
No, autocap is what I want. I had a program I used, but it was giving me, like, 15 gigs per episode of images when I was only capping a part of the episode.
I couldn't speak to that part of it, as I don't remember. I know it always produced a lot of caps for me to sort through. But you can set the interval for how often it caps and also the quality of the caps.
I use VLC (on occasion, lol, but it’s been great when I did: also it’s just the most helpful program for everything) and I’m not in front of the UI BUT I bet I can find the Dreamwidth tutorial I used
I also autocap, but reducing from HD (it’s gonna be 100x100!) and being specific about clips and interval are the best way to avoid huge dumps. I do reasonably frequent caps to avoid ‘every cap is a weird face’ but also, I had to go pick a musician as a PB so - even if I just ran it the whole source would be like four minutes at a time
