Murderbot's sass is so good

I'm not saying I'm tempted to pick up Murderbot, but I'm a little tempted

I'm about 2/3 of the way through Network Effect rn, and its reunion with ART is making me feel feelings

but what if you did pick up murderbot

Network Effect is probably my favorite of all the books, is so good

Right? I like that it's complementary to ART's designation, and it meaning the furthest point from the sun works very well for Murderbot's whole "don't touch me" vibe

Watching ep1 of the show

Oh no he's playing the awkward too well

I'm not not into Arata/Pin-Lee, but awww, Overse

I get dropping Volescu, he doesn't do a whole lot, but I would have thought Bharadwaj would be a more obvious choice to drop than Overse

I guess this means Pin-Lee will probably take her role in Network Effect if they get that far

I am having a great time overall, but I don't know if I love the characterisation changes they've made

i've only seen a couple eps so far but i do feel like the changes were kind of odd. like, i would have liked them to expand and take a little more time with things and maybe do a little more build up with presaux and murderbot instead of what they did change with the characterization

frankly I really dislike what they have done to the team in the tv show. They are so good in the books and they look like idiots in the show. Minus Mensah.

Bharadwaj is more prominent in the books than Oversee, specially her relationship with murderbot, so I guess that's why they did it

Apparently, the showrunners wanted to do 8 episodes, since the novella is so short, but apple forced them to do10 so they had to pull a lot of stuff out of their ass. And imo, they did....not so great at times

Ratthi being kind of a dipshit works (I say this with love) but yeah, Mensah in particular I think has been made less competent in a way that is actually detrimental to the story

Her keeping it together and being a good leader even though she's in a wildly unfamiliar situation is a major factor in Murderbot developing a genuine respect for her

and I think having her freaking out is 1. a disservice to her character, and 2. lessens the impact of how much you do see her struggling to come to terms with everything that happened in the later books

And poor fucking Gurathin really got done dirty

I've only watched 4 episodes so far though, so I guess I'll reserve full judgement for now

Aye I agree. I did not like how they immediately gave her panic attacks in the series when this doesn't happen until the end, where she has more reasons to have that kind of reaction

I love the actor but I also don't like how they portray Gurathin, because he feels like an original character that has nothing to do with the one in the books

I'm bummed about Ratthi because the books make a point to mention that he gets around but all his partner and himself are happy and satisfied, while show Ratthi sure doesn't manage that

and I do think the show has also made Murderbot a bit less competent than in the books, mostly because they also cut its drones. Oh well.
