THE PLANTS ALL COME FROM A SHOP, *ALL OF THEM*
AND I WASHED EVERY ITEM I BOUGHT AND ALL OF THAT WAS SUPER DRY
god I hate snails with a goddarn passion
I guess it's time to buy a snail trap. I noticed it now because i got one of those surface rings so some of my duckweed could be kept in a small 'garden'
I don't want to buy a snails eating fish, nor I want to use chemicals but I just saw one of those dastards
And even if I removed them, I'm SURE that seeing one means there must be plenty
Snails aren’t harmful and I embrace them. But yeah, they’re pretty impossible to avoid if you are planting a tank. You can either get assassin snails or a snail trap
I don't hate snails per se but they suffocated my last tank, all those years ago, by breeding without control since I have no predators in my tank. just one very cool boi
I am looking for a non chemical trap right now. I just don't know what to do with the snails once I capture them, but that's a problem for later' me
I realize I did say I hate snails just above but let me clarifty: I hate snail inefestations and they've been awful every time
One snail or two would be perfect but they breed far too much and last time my tank imploded. I'm not sure why becuase I wasn't an expert back then but fishes started dying SO FAST even if there weren't many of them
(the second 'crazy breeder' I will never purchase again is guppies.)
yeah, snails are just part of a planted tank unfortunately
while I'm aware I tried really hard not to get the. The shop didn't have any (the only one that didn't have them) but it's okay. I'll see how to manae them. I don't want killer nsails so I'm looking into a potential friend for Sunny, it's just that the other fish options seem to grow a lot
at leaset I know I'm not overfeeding? I hand food for the boi twice a day (every 12 hours) and we sit together until he's done consuming is meal (i try to give some entishment letting him eat from my fingers and he has zero fear so it works)
i'm not sure how the snails might have suffocated them
I am heavily suspicious that the snails were to blame
like, i have hundreds and hundreds of snails in all of my tanks
i find them in my filters and clean them out to prevent clogging
but they've never caused an issue.
I don't know, I was relatively young back then. I just know there was a boom of snails and then he water got murky even if I didn't change anything and then a my aquarium kind of imploded
It's worth mentioning I didn't live alone so I didn't have full control of the situation? So there may have been somthing I missed. I just know I am NOT fond of aquarium snails
in my experience the snail population booms initially (usually during cycling and settling of the tank, before I add fish)
then it evens out and stabilizes as the tank stabilizes
the snails generally eat any leftover food
if your cycle wasn't rock solid before adding fish it may have been mid-cycle when the boom happened
in that case you would have to do daily water changes to control the spikes
which there shouldn't be much of it since I feed Sunny a few betta pellets every meal and we basically eat them 'together'. Also the cycle finished when I added the fish
so far it was just one snail so hopefully there is no boom
you have 0 nitrites, 0 ammonia, and nitrates right?
(and I hope I cycled correctly. I mean i DID get both stripes and the other kit in. and yep- pretty much
the only value still a bit high is KH but the rest is literally all on the lowest end
don't worry about KH and GH
that's whatever your local water is.
My water PH is 8.2 to 8.4
stable parameters are always more important
-nods- that's good to hear.
He should be fine in that sense. Thins haven't changed at all since I put him in and plants are growing fine so they should filter stuff
as far as amount of food yeah just a couple of pellets twice a day should do it. fish tummies are about the size of an eye
yep. more would just fester in the water. I also used flakes initially because it was what he was being fed in the shop and I gradually changed the food to proper betta stuff but, like, I feel like the single jar of pellets will last me forever
