[superman spoilers inside] there is one scene in particular in Superman 2025 that I felt was more suitable for a rated R movie and I’m not sure how I feel about it, and I just want to get my thoughts out on it because it is bothering me
To be clear, overall I loved the movie
But this is bugging me and I wanted to get it out
So, early in the movie, some random guy runs to check on Superman after Superman gets literally pounded into the ground in Metropolis.
Just some nice guy who is worried about supes.
Says he gave Superman free food one time.
Lex sees this and tell his people to get random guy’s information
Half way through the movie, Lex takes Superman to basically space gitmo and suppresses his powers
Then Lex and the president of Russisrael bring random nice guy before Supes, tied to a chair
Lex puts one bullet in a revolver and attempts to interrogate Supes by playing Russian roulette with nice guy
Guy is crying, Supes is crying begging Lex to stop
Lex puts a bullet in the guy’s head the second time he pulls the trigger
The president of Russisrael is laughing he thinks it’s funny
Lex is annoyed he only lasted 2 rounds, and then goes “whelp I guess I need to go find another person who was nice to you to bring here to execute now”
I feel like it was too dark, honestly
Like, it IS the thing that breaks Rex into not kryptoniting Superman anymore despite Lex holding Rex’s child hostage
And you need something believable to do that
But, I don’t know, it felt like too much
I’m curious what other people’s thoughts are on this
I had no issues with it. It was dark, but for me it worked ... especially the reactions of Luthor and Putinyahu, because it's showing the two "human" people are iinhumanly cruel where the alien and the weirdo are heartbroken at the loss of another person
I think it was necessary. Superman stories have this reputation for Clark being able to just swoop in and instantly stop anything bad from happening. There was a loss that was needed both to show to that he can’t do that and to make Rex realize he could be brave
Not that he could be brave; that he NEEDED to be brave. To stop Lex from killing another innocent person
Also, for an audience, it's really easy to like ... ignore bystanders, you know? For the people who are not our characters, and who get caught up in the fighting, to just become a faceless mass of individuals.
this made sure you don't forget the little guys
I'm a sensitive person and shit like this is why I don't watch movies anymore.
I can't stand being blindsided by gore, cruelty, triggering content etc
