The time has come to build my first proper deck since getting sucked back in by the FF set

The approach I want to take is to pick out one or two cards from my collection that I think are cool, and build around that

The first card that jumped out at me as mechanically interesting is Greg here

Attacking with a creature and getting to put free cards onto the battlefield appeals to me

However

1) The only equipment cards I have are the job gear ones and Lion Heart. Lion Heart's cool but the others seem kind of low-impact

2) Greg is literally the only Samurai I have to equip the equipment on. I guess that's fine but

3) The more I look at this card the more I suspect it might be butts? By the time you have greg and six mana available to play how many equipment cards are going to be left in the deck anyway

when you get more good equipment you could probably put him in charge of a Brawl deck

you want to eventually get stuff that's expensive to cast or equip to cheat the mana on

Yeah my Red equipment options would be Coral Sword, Red Mage's Rapier, and Warrior Sword, plus Lion Heart. Throw in another 2-3 from a second color but I don't think I've got the juice to make Greg playable in my current collection

yeah you want stuff like embercleave and colossus hammer

So, my second thought is this bad boy

...quite a bit stronger at baseline.

It looks like what you want there are cards that sacrifice, but also cards that mill your own deck. Draw-and0discard effects.

(although with straight mill effects you need to be careful about not milling Emet himself, which would be embarassing)

cards with surveil give you more control over what goes into your gy

Side note I think it's very neat that the MTGA deck builder automatically scales the number of basic lands in the deck according to what you put in it
