The description of one of the movies got a chuckle out of me: "Twin monsters with ape-like features roam the Japanese countryside. The good one is peace-loving, the bad one wants to step on everybody in Tokyo."
The movies being shown are
-All Out Attack
-Ebirah, Horror of the Deep
-Invasion of Astro-Monster
-Terror of MechaGodzilla (which came out roughly a decade after the other movies that are shown)
-The War of the Gargantuas
I think I'll watch Terror of MechaGodzilla.
It's starting with what I assume is a recap of a previous movie, and the Godzilla vs. Godzilla fight that they're showing makes the appeal of MechaGodzilla (especially to a child audience) pretty clear. (What if Godzilla was a robot?!)
There's more blood in a 70s Godzilla movie than what I expected.
And Godzilla developed magnetic powers somehow. This is only a recap, and it's already throwing in plot twists haha
Suddenly, aliens! (though they mentioned MechaGodzilla was made of some kind of space metal)
Dr. Mafune is now doing the standard "they called me mad!" speech, complete with evil laughter.
I think I'm about halfway through the movie, and I get that they're setting up for Godzilla vs. Titanosaurus and MechaGodzilla, but there's surprisingly little Godzilla in this Godzilla movie.
The clips of Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Manda (whoever Manda is) feel like they were included purely so they could be put in the marketing to act like these monsters were in the movie.
Katsura's eyes can emit a blinding flash - guess the aliens did more than just bring her back to life, even if we didn't see them messing with her eyes.
Titanosaurus used Tail Whip! It's super effective!
There's less than fifteen minutes left in this movie, and Godzilla STILL hasn't shown up outside of the opening recap.
(wait, scratch that, he did show up to chase Titanosaurus off when Dr. Mafune unleashed it early. Still, he's barely been in this movie)
How desperate do you have to be to yell "Godzilla, help!"
MechaGodzilla keeps getting uncomfortably close to doing what looks like a Nazi salute.
Maybe they gathered it from Dr. Mafune's research, but they make a comment about the Titanosaurus normally being gentle, and it strikes me as odd that they know that.
Godzilla gets buried alive, bursts out of the ground, and immediately starts firing lasers.
That fire stunt was pretty impressive. Also, Godzilla didn't even bother firing lasers when MechaGodzilla was spamming what felt like half a dozen projectiles; he just ran in and went
ORA ORA ORA ORA ORA 60FPS
I wasn't expecting to see the aliens' true form; I figured they were energy beings possessing humans.
Killing the Titanosaurus seemed unnecessary, all things considered.
I also watched the 1994 Fantastic Four movie and Happy Gilmore 2 today, so that's three movies in a day.
