It was a nightmare. She ended up printing the Excel sheet and highlighting row by row the things I was trying to show her how to filter to

And manger wants me to teach her how to use 3 together

As we move from writing things on paper to Excel.

I originally made it so 1 paper = 1 Excel file to make it a little easier of a transition.

Manger didn't like seeing 9 different files for slight differences.

So then I tried to combine for the major differences. Got the 9 spreadsheets to 1 spreadsheet with 4 tabs.

Now manger is asking for all info in one table in one tab.

Which - honestly is super easy if you understand the basics of computers

But this woman does not

And I don't think my manger really fully grasps just how bad she is as I'm the one always training the group on computers 101

We had a tense conversation where I said if she really wants to have these many filters that I do not want to be the one training her.

Manager is insisting it needs to be me as she doesn't fully understand how the payment runs really work.

Which I then asked why did it need to be one file if it will make it easier for us who actually do the work to have a couple tabs.

At which point I think I went to far as she basically said: ZZ, we need to modernise this section of our work and I am delegating it to you. I don't expect it to be perfect right away, but we need to start.

I'm just.... I don't want to be an assistant manger. I don't want to train people. I want to be a number grunt. I want to get my work, do it, and clock off at the end of the day.

But I don't know how to move past me bluntly saying: I don't want to do this and basically being told: too bad, so sad.

I'm willing to embrace the change my manger wants, but I don't want to be in charge of getting the rest of the team on board.

Make the counter offer: That sounds like a managerial task. I'm not a manager.

Basically right now we have several different payment runs:
Electronic
Check
ETFs

For our different companies across the world
Company 1 - Aus
Company 1 - Uk
Company 1 - USA
Company 2 - Ireland
Company 3 - Aus
Company 3 - Canada

And we have several different banks we use for payment and different currencies
Bank 1: AUD, USD, GBP, EUR
Bank 2: USD, GBP
Bank 3: USD only

Just as general examples. Right now when we do a payment run we get the paper work for the type of payment we're doing, for the specific company we're paying, from which bank, in what currency

So I made an Excel sheet for each slip of paper. I thought that would be a good way to start and slowly introduce combining once we get past how hard just opening a computer file is going to be.

I'm just... So angry. If you're going to make me train her, why not let me do it slowly? Why do we need to jump all the way to taking away her piles of paperwork and shoving it all together as one thing right away

I thought moving from a bunch of sheets to a few tabs was a nice compromise at least.

If manger really doesn't like the tabs and wants it all as one then why doesn't she just teach this woman

I know I'm ranting and probably not making sense as I try to stay somewhat vauge about how my job works for security reasons, but I'm just so angry and just letting it woosh out somewhere

I think perhaps asking your manager how much time is acceptable to her to spend on trying to teach teammates who to use filters, as it's likely to exceed that amount and impact on your other work

cause i imagine it's not the teaching that's the problem, it's knowing that it's not going to be teaching once, it's going to be an ongoing inability of your coworker to learn it

I've been going through similar things as they have decided not to mess with MS Office and gone fully to the online versions.... except that 99% of our forms either open in the Excel Program or open in the online version and can't be fucking filled out so all the 'must be typed' forms are being hand written because I CAN'T FUCKING EDIT THEM

My wording was more: this sounds like a massive change and I am not comfortable training the others because their skill set is not up to this change. It feels beyond my job title

Yeah, my manger asked me to write instructions and I'm happy to, but I've done that before and it's ignored. My instructions being ignored is an issue I've brought up several times and it hasn't been really addressed so.... /shrug

I'm foreseeing a mess soon

(while also being like... I kind of like it all in one spreadsheet so it's a bit silly that I'm grumpy that I can't do something I like.)

I'd rather have to switch tabs occasionally then do the pulling teeth of teaching these people filters
