Sorry, I know I've been plurking a lot lately. I will chill it's just everything happening at once

BUT okay so I need to sign up for Fall classes

And they have 7 week courses and 15 week courses

I just did 2 courses for 7 weeks and I am.......... properly burnt out

Like I have 2 things left to do besides study and I just. Can't. I will. It won't be pretty. But OOF

So you might be like Well, Alex. Obviously do the 15 week

YA BUT I BURNT OUT THEN TOO? lmao

So here's the issue. 15 week is like ........ slow af

And there's so much bullshit busy work. More projects. More essays. More discussion boards. There is not more substance just more nonsense

And as a fellow teacher, yo I get it but also can you not

So the 7 week course there is still a lot to do but also less bullshit taking up space

Less filler, let's say

So do I risk another 7 week course and the potential burn out that it causes to avoid Dragon Ball episode levels of filler that the 15 week has?

Or do I deal with the slow 15 week burn of filler for maybe a smaller risk of burn out

Second opinions appreciated. I'm gonna study instead of procrastinate

context needed: why are you doing all of this coursework? what're you aiming for?

Math classes are so I can pass the dang Praxis

And the lit classes are so I can start an MEd for English lit for secondary ed

I'd do 7 week to get it over with faster

3 more math, 1 more lit. I've got about two more semesters of this

I'm only doing 2 courses at a time. The work load is just... crazy. And I'm a hideous perfectionist. I can't handle not knowing it all LMAO

So I am my own undoing to an extent

And ya.. the idea of getting it over with is nice. Technically I could double up. 2 sets of 7 week courses and I could get all of the 4 remaining classes done by February

But.... I don't think I can mentally do that, however much the speedy option seems to be better

And even once all of these are done, I'm going straight into an MEd program for at least 2 years of even more intense courses

Including a 6 month practicum so there's the long haul to consider when I'm already feeling burnt from just a year of this

WHEN PEOPLE SAY returning to school is rough, I underestimated them lol

And I'm a fucking teacher. I am doing school to just do more school

The end goal is to use a shiny new MEd to gtfo of the US again. Alas, I am a wanderlusting creature of habit

But that is a tangent. ANYWAYS......

so, from experience on both the student and teacher end, I wouldn't recommend a 7 week math class if it's not an area you're comfortable in

Yeah... math is uncomfortable in general

there's a certain level of practice you need to do for those courses that can be difficult for a short term, especially since most of the time the modules directly build on each other, so you can't do a "well I didn't understand that last author, but I like the next one" like you could in a lit class

And I definitely think I won't retain most of the class I just took. I've studied so much and I'm still struggling with some formulas

my dad was once asked to teach a 2 week gen ed math class as a trial because admin really wanted to have it as an intersession class, his response at the end was basically "grades reflect who was there doing the work, not what what was learned "

Lit is all useless fluff for the 15 and the 7 just makes the teacher cut the crap better

Idk what it is about lit teachers but they sure love their own voice

Honestly, in fairness. I think they're all just gushing about their favorite fandoms and forget they're in a classroom with objectives

yeah that sounds like a good plan, lit for 7 weeks and math for the longer time so your brain can recover

Yeah... and that way I can really just focus on math only for the remaining weeks once lit is finished
