I heard about Google docs being allegedly removed--and I have seen so many back and forth articles that I don't know what to think anymore, but yeah, it's gotten a lot of my friends and I to think we better have another back up for our stuff.

I've seen some of the allegations about censorship, everywhere from Google accounts to gaming platforms...and I don't understand. Now I don't usually care much for stuff of a highly violent/sexual nature...

BUT, you can find plenty of "offensive" stuff aimed at "mature viewers" or "mature readers" being marketed on lots of services...and nobody seems to have a problem with it??? Yet accurate terms and words are routinely censored when it's material from individual users???

This. I detest the "algorithim speak" that's infesting Youtube. One history Youtuber I follow (a high school teacher who reacts to historical video essays and such) has to come up with increasingly stupider euphemisms for, say, Adolf Hitler. In a reaction video on WWII's European Theatre. Whut.

I do try an avoid too much graphic violence in my work (though at tines, my characters wind up confronting Things That Will Eat Them), and so far, I've had a couple fade to black love scenes (one in an up-coming title). The thing that got dinged on Patreon was a cut scene from "The Vampires Artemesia & Lonnigan"...

...In which Lonnigan displays that, among other less than savory habits, he has an utterly filthy mind and likes to objectify attractive women. It bothers me that there is this mindset that if you portray something, even in a mature fashion, that, oh, you must approve of it.

I also don't approve of the Nazis experimenting on a captured werewolf in one of my WIPs.

I've said elsewhere, that I'm not an fan of censorship, outside of maybe tagging stuff as "mature readers/viewers only: consider this your warning".

But I don't think of that as censorship, more like putting up guard rails or warning signs for hazardous materials.

But you still get the people with the mindset that all media has to be family friendly, somehow, regardless of the subject matter or target audience. growls
