I did look into other ocean youkai and there really aren't a lot of options that aren't 'fish-headed human' or something silly like that 😅 him becoming something he hates is also just poetic

(and ngllll I do think Ebisu falling and becoming a youkai could end up positively, but it's what HE would hate specifically and being isolated is what makes it the most bad-end that it could get)

if you're wondering I based Ebisu's snekey looks off of banded sea kraits that are common in Japan's waters... as much as I love the pretty blue ones that's not Ebi's color scheme so he gets to be brown

and yes those snakes are venomous but I'm not planning on having him bite anyone unless it's requested fff
