I'm scrolling thru all the Trek things I've reblogged on my tunglr because it's midnight on Friday and ran across this again so I am obligated to share it

Kirk lost but it was all a test to see if humans were still the narrow-minded freaks that the space puritans remembered them as (because they visited humans during puritan times). And they had big flagons of beer with Satan, who I must emphasize, was Biblical Satan, and warped off into the sunset

The reason this happened was becaues Gene Roddenberry wanted the crew to meet God (and probably fight him bc that's what happened in a movie later) but the network said no. So he asked if they could meet Satan. And that was okay because, TV network executives are idiots with zero sense of irony

they also canonically met 'God' but things went sideways when the guy couldn't explain what he needed with a starship

'God' is canonically less chill than Satan. But maybe equally chill as the Greek pantheon, who also turned out to be dicks.
