Japanese mcdonalds ran a promotion with pokemon cards in happy meals and had to rescind it early and apologize
because people were buying meals en masse for the cards and nothing else
thousands of tons of food wasted
the videos of guys in long lines buying food in bulk just to dump it on the sidewalk is nightmarish
yeah

the videos of the piles of food were disgusting
scalper behaviour with markets like that has gotten so bad, especially with the pokemon tcg
I just don't.... get it I guess
isn't this just the second coming of beanie babies??
why are we putting so much value on lil squares of cardboard??
I thought labubus were the second coming of beanie babies lmao
some of this garbage has started to hit mtg and it's so disheartening
I stan ppl who buy graded cards and bash the 'slabs' open tho
i work at a store that isnt primarily a card shop, but still sells pokemon packs anyway, and we had to limit it to one pokemon card item per person to try to curb scalpers
i have legit had some of these scalper customers get so pissy about it too when we try to explain that we are required to do so to try to help make it fair and give everyone a chance, including kids, to get pokemon cards
like once i had to call someone up to cash register just to stand guard and keep me safe because one of these scalpers was acting so hostile about the limit and was starting to sound threatening
and again, i reiterate: we are not even a card shop that primarily sells cards. i work at a book store that occasionally gets trading cards randomly delivered to us.
once, i watched a guy buy a pack, open it in the parking lot... and then toss the whole thing, cards and all onto the ground before backing over them and driving away because the rare card or whatever the fuck they were looking for wasnt the one they wanted
i later walked out to see for myself what the cards were, i think it was a gyarados that was the rare in that particular pack and just... being so miffed to see how they were carelessly discarded, like who has money to not only carelessly throw away if youre not gonna keep them, or at the very least give the cards away to a library or something that
might pass it on to the kids! but no, just tosses them aside like garbage after making such a fuss getting them from our store
