This is now A Thing on my University's website.
Well my first day back training meetings could be summed up as:
They don't know shit about it.
But they love the IDEA of using ALL the AI.
2. Nobody can tell us anything about what raises will look like this year. But they promise we're doing well financially!!!!1
But it's literally nonsense.
What is the "base" ? they didn't say
Who gets to be raised to "the base" it's a third of you, nobody knows who.
Is the base the "minimum" level that they were still struggling to raise people to last year? No idea. Is it the "median" level that they were SUPPOSED to be aiming for but it's been 3 years and they haven't even attempted? No idea.
3. Seems like everyone hates the Books-as-Service model that they unveiled.
The bookstore has moved to a model where instead of students paying for THEIR book costs everyone across the university pays for the AVERAGE of all books costs.
And this is only for book rentals.
So for example, in my EH 101 class the book costs $40 because the English department has argued it down because EVERY 101/102/103/104/105/106 class uses the same textbook.
But under the new system, students are charged $23 per credit-hour, so $69 per class (nice).
So those 101 students are paying $69 for their $40 textbook.
Meanwhile somewhere there's a Finance student paying $69 for their $299 textbook.
And this is forced on everyone. And it REQUIRES a bunch of faculty choosing low-cost or no-cost book options for their classes to keep costs down.
Because if I start to assign $69 worth of books to all of my classes, it'll drive up the overall costs.
