The fact that this DVD has a trailer for Universal DVDs in general makes me feel like it was one of the first DVDs. (Also, it makes me think that I should watch one of the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies)
Surprised that the mayor from Jaws is still the mayor in this one.
I like the teases that a shark attack is going to happen only for the shark to change its mind and go for someone else.
The tension isn't built up as well as the original, but so far this seems like a competent (albeit somewhat derivative) sequel. (They seem more confident with their shark effects)
The water-skiing scene was great. Surprised we got a clear view of the shark so early, and the visual of half of its face on fire was a memorable one.
The mayor seems more reasonable this time around, wanting proof before doing anything. Also, Brody clearly/understandably has issues with going in the water, and that burned corpse likely won't help.
I like how even the happy relaxing music incorporates elements of the Jaws theme, so you can't be sure if anyone's safe.
I get that Brody has PTSD, but if he mentioned his concerns to his son, that seems like it would get rid of some of the friction between them. (Whereas, from the son's perspective, his dad banned him from most of the recreational activities on the island for no reason at all)
Brody's going full Dr. Loomis, shooting at the ocean because he thinks he might see a shark.
I feel like Brody should have waited for more pictures to be developed rather than taking the first one that might have a shark in it.
The longer this scuba diving scene goes on, the more anxious it makes me - it was almost a relief when the shark showed up.
Martin Brody isn't having much luck on Amity Island - with the police chief job, he's a nervous wreck on the verge of snapping, and without the job, he's almost immediately becoming an alcoholic.
The teens are out on the open ocean, and somehow, they all manage to crash their boats into each other.
Ironically, Mike's life jacket may be what kills him.
I like how the shark attacks are justified by people splashing around or making lots of noise. (Like the teens cheering when the helicopter arrives) Even the shark's presence in Amity seems justified if it's the child of the original and following the previous shark to these waters, where it finds food.
Well, those kids are traumatized.
With the kids celebrating after the shark was electrocuted, I figured the shark would come back for one last scare.
I enjoyed it. It made me think of Halloween 2 and Rocky 2 - a well-made sequel that's a natural follow-up to the original, but the original is downright legendary so it would be a tough act for any movie to follow.
