ZZ! Why can't I make this payment?!
Computer says there's no bank details entered. Enter bank details.
ZZ! The printer has stopped working!
Screen says it's out of paper. Add more paper.
ZZ! My computer says it needs a restart!
Then restart it.
These three examples just from today make me a genius. Apparently.
how did they function for a week without you
Hahhahahahah...they didn't
Most of this week has been spent cleaning up messes from last week
In fact, I see a pretty big issue looming because I said in a meeting - hey guys, I'm not looking at anything that came in last week unless you specifically ask for my help as no one followed our agreed organising process while I was away. I can't tell what's been actioned and what hasn't.
Said this with our manger nodding along.
Because they haven't, things are a huge mess. And it's a simple process I've set up for them. Finished items go in the finished folder.
Items being worked on get flagged a colour and each person has their own colour to say they're taking charge of it.
So if something doesn't have a colour it means no one has started that task yet.
Except they haven't bothered taking charge of hardly anything while I was away. So things are half done and mostly ignored.
They've done some work, but no one wants to take responsibility so they've left it blank. And I know it's because they're hoping someone else will do it.
And I can see something I checked and confirmed no one's started working on yet. I've taken the work they specifically said they needed help with and that wasn't in the pile.
So. Sucks to be them eventually
definitely stand your ground on this, as they're clearly waiting for you to come and fix it (maybe not even a consciously waiting for it, but sadly they seem to have decided you will fix everything and therefore they don't need to worry about it)
you even made them a process, how did they fuck that up
It's mostly because I'm the only full time person. They get it in their head of: oh, I won't be in tomorrow, so I guess I can't start this.
Even though they can. I can always finish tomorrow, but at least they've started it. Or some things take a couple days to hear back about so they could start and finish the next time they're in
I would murder for a second full time person
that does make more sense
but no less annoying for you
As long as your manager isn't going to turn around and ask you why it hasn't been done.
Since its all emails and dated they can also easily tell who didn't bother to pick it up when it came in
^^^^ yup, if it wasn't dated I would be trying to cover it
