thy gave me an iron based fertilizer and I put HALF of the recommended dose in but now I'm lowkey freaking out because the water is a weird color and I just googled too much iron can damage bettas?
So I'm on FULL ALERT mode even if he's swimming around just fine for now
sadly a single betta that's being fed 10 pellets/day isn't enough to 'take care' fo the plants, not even duckweed was propagating
I'll keep an eye on him, if he slows down I'll definitely just do the 'bad' emergency solution and put him in a bowl (I KNOW) while I boil some sayer and wait for the dechlorination to happen
I only put HALF of the recommended dose so...
Plants take months to settle and if you used a reputable brand the fertilizer is fine. I have dosed fertilizer twice weekly for years to no ill effect
Can I have e a picture to help you troubleshoot and see what’s going on?
I'm currently noty at home but I will when I arrive tomorrow
IUt's just- Sunny keeps uprooting all plants and one of the plants DID die
So tomorrow I have to remove it when I have time? There was a big boom of plant growth when I was cycling the aquarium, then nitrites and all dropped and plants have been just there, stagnating
and one went from green to brown in three days
That happens. They melt a bit as they adjust then regrow
This one is dead dead. Like, brown from tips to root brown
And it happened in three days? And the duckweed suddenly went all pale too
but I tested water and all parameters seem just fine?
Parameters are probably fine. Do you have diatoms? That happens in new tanks
Fine brown stuff all over everything
How often do you water change and how much do you change?
I have some algae but I'm controlling it by diminihsing light exposition and that already helped a LOT (I do 8 hours of light daily)
Not sure if that's diatoms tho? They used to be ggreen and now they're brown probably because they're dying.
I do weekly water changes with around 10% of the water being changed after I dechlorinate it in the 'traditional way (boiling it in a large pot, letting it rest for 24 hours covered)
Hornwort and duckweed is hard to kill so I really don’t think they are fully dying
They are probs having a tough adjustment though
Hornworth and moss are the only two thriving but Sunny REALLY loves to pull the hornworth out of the ground...
Hornwort can thrive floating
Stem plants can just float and be fine
yeah it's mostly flaoting rtight now XD it DOES look awful XD
Sunny just doesn't like it planted, I guess? but he seems to be doing absolutely fine, even if I noticed his spine is crooked
something I didn't notice before getting him home
Like, it curves into a C to the right when he's not actively swimming
he is active and energetic tho, so it probaby doesn't bother him too much? And it's not something I have control over
