After more than 9 years as a paying Pro member (and even covering a second account), my account was suspended with only a vague mention of “video.” I then heard nothing for over a week. Later, even non-explicit posts were flagged — like avatars swimming in normal bathing attire, or even fully clothed avatars.
My account has since been reinstated, but only after jumping through arbitrary hoops and being pushed into self-censorship under rules stricter than YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok.
After this experience, I will not renew my account. There are better platforms out there — YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Primfeed, and Plurk. See you there!
being on Flickr is more than just advertising your products to customers, it's also engaging with the people that buy/take photos of your products. I love it when brands engage with me on platforms I'm on.
I completely agree with you, Gogo. But I don’t feel Flickr is a safe or respectful space for me as a creator anymore. I’ll keep focusing on platforms where I can engage freely with customers and their work, without worrying that my account could vanish overnight.
Facebook and others restrict adult content too, sure. But Flickr flagged non-explicit posts with just avatars in swimwear or even fully clothed. And they didn’t just pull one post, they took down my entire paid account for over a week. That’s disproportionate.
Flickr does that until you correct one item. It's not fun, but this is how they stay in compliance w/ regulations to keep adult content from users that may not want to or need to see it.
This wasn’t just about correcting one item. My entire paid account was suspended for over a week, over non-explicit posts, with no clear explanation and no guidance, just a guessing game. That goes far beyond compliance.
Hugs Plurk surprisingly, Flickr just got back to me and extended my subscription as a courtesy. Don’t think it will change my decision, but I have time to think about it.
