latest #72
Turns out Mozilla updates happen a LOT faster than Chrome, which is nice to know.
I will let you all know as soon as its available for Chrome as well, though it's worth noting that existing users will be automatically updated

If you just can't wait - you can:

- Export your Accounts from Chrome
- Import into Firefox to play with Groups etc
- Export from Firefox and Import back into Chrome when that gets approved and released via Chrome
立即下載
This release should not only fix all the issues Firefox users experienced but overall, massively increase stability and support for Dreamwidth users

Lastly, a new About Page which very importantly has a credits section and includes the names of the people who helped with testing. Without their help, this would have been a much longer and far more tedious process

I do believe Chrome users can install it manually, not just off their extensions store, fwiw. :-) for those who just cannot stand to wait, haha...
They have different manifest files because FF doesn't have complete support for MV3 - That said - I don't think the extra things I had to do for FF will impact Chrome
Chrome tends to... not care as much about a lot of things. Firefox is very particular
Works beautifully. The Group function is GREAT. I've added a bunch of old 'might occasionally use every few months' journals and I LOVE to have them ready to go if I want them while being able to filter them out via group views. The ability to group journals by game, active/inactive/etc, by canon or medium, is REALLY great.
Thank you so much for all this work, genuinely - it's so so so good already.
inkcharm: I'm so happy it's all working smoothly and the new features are loved!!
Not sure how feasible, but I think a cherry on top of the group feature would be the ability to sort groups after making them - I might be blind and not see how that's done right now. And swapping between groups from the extension popup would be awesome too. But those are minor qol things, the functionality rn is absolutely A+

inkcharm: Sorting - Easy enough for me to add in for a next release
Switching - is on my list. My biggest thing is trying to find an unobstrusive design that will work nicely on both Chrome & Firefox. It's doable just a little more complex without making the popup become more unmanagable.
I had been thinking of adding settings like that you can show/hide so that if you're a user who doesn't use groups - its never a thing you have to contend with. If you do - you can have an option added. That kind of thing
in terms of layout, my immediate thought had been that this area was a dropdown tbh. I tried very hard to click it L M A O. Maybe the opt in to having a group dropdown could be a toggle like All / Reload / Compact? https://images.plurk.com/4guU9BMjTGz74SAMdiHUWn.png
The downside to that is that it becomes a dropdown within a popup which - can work don't get me wrong, but is more prone to issues and user errors.
I do already have some things mapped out on how to handle it because I can see the benefit. Just opted (For now at least) for the simpler approach of let Manage screen manage, while popup does what Manage tells it to.

Ideally I don't want to do too much in any release because that then will likely result in a lot more bugs and longer review process

"RP Tools" is going to be massive, so that one will either be in installmenets or will take time for it to be fully done.

Things like that (Popup and sorting) I can do as minor improvement releases in between
I'm seriously excited to see that implementation, not gonna lie. But yeah I imagine that's gonna be huge.
Massive - there's a reason it was a stand-alone app and I have to figure out how to do it all LOL Some I know, others its going to be a trial & Error + Googling
There's a lot of stuff I want to do, I just also need to spread it out a bit because I also work fulltime and sometimes like having a life LOL. This release was different as I wanted to get a really solid stable version out for DW users as quickly as I could.
tysm for all the work you’ve done and are doing, fr, it’s incredible
To give you an idea, to do this release I was lucky enough to have a 4 day weekend of 12-15 hours of coding time per day
Then I was coding before, after (and in some cases during) work.
Pretty much the last blur of a week has been Code > Work > Code > Sleep > Repeat - with Lucy making her demands in between LOL
(None of that is - be impressed or feel sorry for me LOL It's me trying to temper expectations on future release timelines - especially for DW Tools functionality)
nah but that is seriously impressive and worth acknowledging tbh. like holy shit, hats off to you, and seriously thank you for all thst hard work.
this works WORLDS better now, thank you so much
angelcore: Thank you for the patience while I got the issues resolved! So glad to hear it !

I do have one question: as a FF user, do I need to manually reinstall the update or do something? or should it update automatically?
millennialfalcon: Firefox updates extensions automatically by default once a day. You can manually check for updates but fair warning - I am pasting the following straight from Google as I'm not a regular Firefox user
Click the menu button (the three horizontal lines).
Select Add-ons and themes.
In the Extensions panel, click the gear icon in the top-right corner.
Here you can:
Check for Updates: Manually trigger a search for new add-on versions.
Update Add-ons Automatically: Enable or disable the automatic update feature for all extensions.
Reset All Add-ons to Update Automatically: If you've turned off automatic updates, this option will reset them to be automatic.

this is a minor cosmetic thing for the webpage rather than the extension: the nested boxes do not play nice with example screenshots on mobile 😂😂 https://images.plurk.com/12j1wNafAvhuUwCxnfss3H.png
it's easy enough to switch to desktop mode ime I just figured I'd make a lil note
KabochaKitsune: I admit - I did not do mobile friendly when I was doing the In-App wireframe examples - I'm sorry!
no worries! it's a relatively small detail on the usersite after you built a whole app in a week 😂😂😂 you're totally good
Oh it was very much - I did the firefox upload and expected it to be days before I'd get a response, and was about halfway through mapping out my FAQ changes when I get my - LIVE ON FIREFOX message... so it was a mad scramble to at least get the content out there
It's on the list to go back and do it properly - its just easier said than done and as its a PC Browser designed extension -its very much on the 'nice to have' list

Btw the Firefox version is working ~beautifully for me over here, love the user friendly error messages for the couple I didn’t remember passwords on, the UI is even prettier full screen and custom-colored... chef’s kiss

Happy to test btw if you need more people for that, I have Chrome on my PC for work so I can do both
wingedvoices: Honestly I could absolutely always use more people willing to test drive the new versions before I release them! If you want to drop me an email at journalgenieapp on gmail so I can add you to the testing group?

Stoked its all working nicely for Firefox! Now I just need Chrome to hurry up their approval process
i love this addon thank you so much for ur hard work!! i switched to this from using an addon w a new session in every tab so i could have a tab open logged into 1 acc & a 2nd tab logged into another (i hope this makes sense)

im just wondering if I open a new tab & switch accs, will it log me out of my other tab?? im sorry if this is a dumb question
faye

chaimilk: this is only half answering your question but it WON'T work (i have found) if you have container tabs open (however that WILL keep it from logging out whoever's logged in in the container)
faye
(so like, it won't log in in a container tab. but you can manually log in in a container and then open without a container, use this, and have at least two characters. it may be that you could also have them open in separate tabs, but iirc having a bunch of characters all logged in simultaneously is why i started using containers in the first place)

that said, it's SO fast to switch using this that it's almost the same. but if you only have two, one container and one regular will do the trick. ....this all assumes you have firefox.
wingedvoices: thank you, that makes sm sense! im pretty new to dwrp AND firefox (i use safari for everything else) so i followed a tutorial for containers and used that until i saw this cool new thing being replurked :3

chaimilk: ahh gotcha! yeah, they're useful in kind of different ways. this is great for memes or just getting fast in and out once you're done, but if you want them ALL OPEN and that's your workflow, containers may be the way to go

i do...both?? right now i only have one character in a game but a bunch that i throw into bakerstreet to play with, so having the ability to switch, post a comment, switch, post a comment is nice

btw, i'm sure you have people you follow but don't hesitate to hmu if you have questions about dwrp, i know the lingo can have a bit of a learning curve

glances at your muselist ...okay you can't be TOO new to dwrp haha
(also: A+ idea throwing ethel cain, the character, on the queue. galaxy brain.)
wingedvoices: i've been active since april! ^^ (and omg ethel cain fan, i love u...... i was considering dropping the idea of using her as an rp character, but then the willoughby tucker i will always love you album came out and now i totally want to again dhfjkg)
(SORRY FOR DERAILING, faye if you want to keep chatting you can pp me or something feel free :3)
chaimilk: No apologies needed!
RE Containers l o l. Its worth noting that everything I know about firefox development, I have needed to teach myself in the last couple of weeks.
Which is to say that I have not specifically coded container support, because my knowledge of them as of right now is minimal at best.
That's not to say it's something I can't add support for, I just... need to teach myself how they work first and then layer it in
Hopefully that answers the question for now? It's basically, leave it with me, I'll figure it out and will add support. Sooner if the demand is higher, but all dependent on me... figuring out how they work
(Still no update from Chrome - sorry! Chrome requires a person to approve it. Firefox appears to just let it through if you pass their automated checks)
Hotfixes are live for both so bulk upload should be sorted now
this is amazing you are amazing
