My Grandparents picked up some of the original beanie babies before they got popular on one of their many road trips for my bros/cousins and when they took off like crazy, parleyed them for a couple dozen thousand dollars and became HUGE devotees For obvious reasons.

So it was actually why was so reminiscent for me -- my Grandma and I would go on her census bureau drives with me reading the maps/directions and we'd stop in boutiques and other random stores she thought might have them available

Now that they're moving after /checks notes/ 60 years... they gave us all a bunch of the beanie babies boxes

My Mom going through them to decide which she wants is so funny

She needs help as a hoarder so I have to nudge her a lot but it's not like she has emotional attachement to each one / randomly or even any memories of them so actually a lot easier

She also gets delighted whenever she give them to someone really lights up

And all I can think is how much harder this will be for 99% of people than just beanie babies but it's pretty fun

Mind you my Mom is super allergic to dust so even touching the PLASTIC BAGS which keep them contained she gets itchy so you'd think she'd want them less \:|/

I did use the Great White Shark one as a woobie. I carried it everywhere

I was trying to collect all of the original released cats as a kid. never completed it- but so it goes

I sold them for piddly amounts to pay bills a couple of years ago

so it's silly to try collecting now

I still have some cat beanie babies, they're so cute
