mmmmm now that depends more on the more literal definition of friend

he's good at hiding and obfuscating and manipulating when he wants to, welcome to spy, but when it's with friends, with people he trusts, or hell, people he doesn't care about keeping a certain image with, he can be very heart on his sleeve

really depends on the situation, but he does tend heavily toward being. mild. unobtrusive. a ghost, etc, draw no attention to himself, no big displays

so when he DOES do a big display you know he's fuckin FEELING it big time and usually with someone he big cares about
