absolutely brutal deconstruction of high fantasy & the entire Us vs Them mindset, the way people rationalize things because They're Good

so what they do must be good

but also there's a few jokes here and there, and it's viciously determinedly...hopeful is too strong a word. it's bleak for a lot of it. but it refuses to be cynical and despairing

and the people who are struggling with hypocrisy and rationalization all have there own priorities and journeys and ways they learn and try

and it's just extremely juicy and also a novella you can knock back pretty quickly, no doorstoppers here

Dogs of War is so good but it's a lot

(also one of the Adrians that I strongly recommend the audiobook for)
