like 4/10 of the people I know in this hobby have a fire emblem character, I want to know why.
tbh they're tropey but with a short bullet point list of added bits of depth. so you get your simple surface level character traits to play with while having room to dig deeper when you feel like playing that.
and with lots of characters covering a wide range of archetypes there are lots of ways to find a cast
me: it's a tactical game, but also a visual novel filled with sword waifu's husbandos, and blorbos. ...ok.
me: maybe I'm just not really into things that smell... isekai-like.
the older ones kind of all have the same 80s/early 90s fantasy vibes, and then Awakening skewed more towards Current Fantasy Anime and made a billion more dollars than the rest combined
yes, I know fe isn't one, but like... it smells of a anime take on fantasy. which most of the time, I'm not into.
I don't wanna be rude and dismissive, bc I may actually end up playing the game and liking it. but idk.
I've been having problems with getting into new stuff lately.
get into old stuff on an emulator then those are my favorite FEs
although those also lack the ability to turn off permadeath, for instance
I think they’re cute and wanted to add more bits and pieces to their story and I like their supports I guess for me it’s easy to figure out which archetype they are and then go from there and the different scenarios makes me think of different ways their path could turn out
Like in Three Houses using my favorite Ashe he goes through a different scenario depending on which route you take or even if you recruit him during the time skip or not or the difference between Conquest and Birthright in Fates I love what if scenarios so that’s another thing that drew me in besides cute characters
For me I don’t have to think too hard that’s why I like it
a lot of it is the appeal of waifus and husbandos and blorbos designed for drama, I think, which isn't a critique it's just... from what I understand, 3 Houses especially has a... maybe not exactly Dating Simulator but kind of side to it where your interactions with characters grow your relationship etc
so the characters are designed and positioned specifically for people to get attached to and interested in them
