Like I never ever ever thought that my Ninth Doctor wouldn’t be my doctor but you guys I was scrolling TikTok and twelve’s speech about war came up and as I was watching and crying. I knew.
twelve was such a lovely doctor
He’s been my second favorite forever! I’ve said it was a possibility if he got another season with better writing but now I know he just is.
And since the episode came out I’ve been saying this is the closest thing I have to a personal philosophy and it’s still true.
I know there’s either forthcoming or newly released big finish with nine and rose and this could change again when I get the chance to listen. But.
Twelve and Nine are my favorites.
Twelve is one I love (but my favorites are Seven and Eleven).
Series 9 (the one that Twelve speech is from) is a very solid series to just- make Twelve beloved through all he is.
I have intensely mixed feelings about Twelve, but he definitely got very good as Capaldi was given more freedom with him
Twelve's evolution is definitely interesting (even if it's driven more by out-of-character things), in that he started out really being not kind at all, and really felt like he had to relearn how to Doctor
(Clara helped the best she could, but she was a little too much of a Best Friend & Enabler, which was great for Eleven but Twelve probably would have benefited more from a steadier hand like Donna who'd be willing to really put her foot down and not get drawn in so easily)
rakath: seven is my fav classic Doctor! He and ace my beloved.
Exacerangutan: yeah I hate season eight. It’s why this wasn’t automatic
But twelve missy is my favorite master/doctor pairing and I’ve been shipping it since before I knew what shipping is.
Missy was excellent and went in really interesting directions and opened up the opportunity for some real depth with The Master and I'm going to die angry at Chibnall for just throwing that away along with all the other great potential Moffat handed him on a platter
I'm gonna bite my tongue since I assume you haven't seen much of Chibnall's seasons yet, but...
Exacerangutan: nah I’m caught all the way up. Never stopped watching though rtd may have done it for now.
...yeah I never finished Chibnall's myself, and nothing I've heard about RTD's return made me feel like it would be a net positive experience.
The Donna episodes have some charm but I will stand by til the end that Jodie’s last episode is the best of the run and feels way more like the 60th than the actual 60th and I love the possibility of 15 BUT.
I think it’s time to let tv canon rest for a while and reset in a bit.
yeah I think the nail in the coffin of my interest was "RTD is back and so is Tennant" which... RTD did good getting the show revived, but as showrunner... let's just say there were problems with his tenure, not least of all his addiction to needlessly melodramatic nonsense just to see Tennant make sad faces
Rusty's second era is like- the most annoying thing? Because you know he's going to fuck up the finale each season, because he's going to do some stupid bullshit (because he does it the finale of every season he's ever done but Nine's). But the episodes up to that point are really good.
And then he's that meme image of a kid jamming a tree branch into their bike wheel. Every. Fucking. Time.
The first and third 60th episodes are really good and fun. And each non-finale episode of Seasons 1 and 2 are at least fun and at most amazing. And the finale tanks the hardest way possible in strictly Rusty ways and I hate it here.
I will say that if RTD had come back to co-consulshowrun with Moffat, where they each curb one another's worst faults and supplement one another's weaknesses, that could have been really promising
I will continue to call Rusty the jingling keys of season writing, which is why each finale is the most lackluster feeling crap every time. (Even bad Moffat seasons like Series 8, there was an interesting theme to it just the juice wasn't worth the squeeze to get it. Series 6 has a similar vibe. Series 7 had 'he wanted Barwench Clara but BBC said no' issues)
...rofl I don't know if that's what happened but I could believe it.
If you are a classic fan who hasn’t seen the Jodie regeneration episode give it a shot. It’s where she’s the most doctor like and properly and we get so many older returning characters
Ace and Tegan and Jo and Ian and I WILL NEVER NOT BE MAD ABOUT MARTHA NOT SHOWING UP THERE
Because poor Yaz needs to meet and talk to Martha jones.
I actually really liked Demons of the Punjab or whatever that one episode about Partition was titled, I found that to be one of her most Doctor-y episodes, but her first one was definitely pretty solid as well
When it’s back up somewhere streaming, I think you’d really appreciate the power of the doctor.
I watched it without watching much of the Chibnall era because- it had Ace in it.
I will give it points for the best dumbest most amazing sequence with that version of The Master.
It sucks cause Sasha is a great master. Chibs really fumbled so many bags but that none more of all.
rakath: I know
exactly what you meab
he... definitely had a lot of potential, anyway? he absolutely sold the mania and obsession and anger and brilliance and stupidity 500%... but there was just so much that poisoned it for me ._.
like with early Capaldi, it's hard to completely separate the actor's portrayal from the writing, within some good counter-examples
Man, I’m so annoyed that I have to fucking sale the seas for doctor who in 2025.
