I got a seven day trial for Crunchyroll; I'm torn between watching Mobile Suit Gundam or Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, but I've never seen a Gundam series before, so I think I'll give Mobile Suit Gundam a try tonight.
I read a volume or two of FMA back when I was younger; I do plan to watch the whole thing eventually, though.
I don't know what I was expecting for the intro, but it's funkier than I would have thought.
The apparent commander of the Zeon forces has a mask that covers the top of his face. If my knowledge of anime cliches are any indication, I'm guessing he's the older brother of one of the main characters. (possibly the main character Amuro)
Amuro is worried that his friend (love interest?) Frau Beau (not sure of the spelling) is hurt, but while he's calling out her name, the subtitles write it as "Bro, bro. Bro, bro."
Not sure if Amuro is a prodigy or if operating a Gundam is so easy that a young teenager can do it.
The sounds of the computers on the ships bring back memories of Star Fox 64 (though I'm sure it's just a stock sound effect).
