Which is indeed causing MORE work for me because this woman keeps interrupting me because she can't even handle renaming a folder without requiring help
About the forth time the woman stopped me from the other work I was trying to get done I dead eyed stared at my manger. The old lady needed help to rename a folder AGAIN as she still couldn't understand what the pop up warning of: You can't renmae this folder while a file is open meant
And my manger just mouthed: sorry at me as I looked at her instead of the old woman while I explained AGAIN that she needs to close the spreadsheet she's in to rename the folder.
Except she doesn't want to rename the folder. She wants to rename the file.
Then no - not the file, the folder.
Now she's also all upset because she's confused herself and I'm just too dead inside to care very much.
yeah your manager needs to step up and tell old lady that if she refuses to listen and learn that she can at least come to the manager for this help instead of you.
As it's defeating the purpose of giving her the project in the first place
It's so stupid. I said it was a bad idea but she wanted to try because it's a 'simple' task of organising things a little better
And the old lady had spare time to finally look at that project where I didn't as old lady only really has 1 task she does
Manager thought this would be a good opportunity to let old lady get more comfortable using computers
How wrong she was. Now she's even more flustered and hating them than she did before
Still doesn't understand how this woman has been employed for as long as she has and learnt so little
I think part of it is a memory issue. Compounded by her inability to actively listen when given instructions
And she remains employed as she knows how to do a couple things really well. She's slow at it, but she can do it. Plus, she's the oldest employee so I don't think they have the heart to get rid of her for not being able to keep up
I was just going to ask if a making a cheat sheet for her would be helpful, but I see that it would not be.
I just wonder how bad the IT team is that everyone still seems to keep coming to you instead of going to them like they're supposed to for this kind of help.
Like, why would someone think, "I have an IT problem. I'll go bother this person whose job is not IT to ask them about this IT problem instead of going to IT whose job it is to help with this IT problem."
Because this is not an IT problem. This is a user issue.
It would be a massive waste of IT's time to come over and tell this woman that she can't name 2 folders the exact same name. They must be different
Our IT team is actually really good. But it would be an insult to them and a waste of their time and resource to keep helping this woman with tasks anyone who's used a computer for a couple months should be able to understand
What she needs is a teacher/class to teach her basic computer skills. But that would also be a waste of company funds because when I say she needs to learn the basics - I means the basics. Like how to turn a computer on when it turns off basics.
I don't think the IT team is bad, they're just not right within hearing distance
they would have to do something beyond whinging outloud to get the IT to know something is wrong
Yeah, they're on the other side of the large building
