The trailer beforehand makes me feel like I should rewatch the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie now that I'm more familiar with the franchise. (Though my movie-watching plans for October are pretty packed)
Didn't know that David Warner was in this. (He's been turning up in a lot of things, or maybe I'm only just noticing him)
The scene after the opening credits with Kirk climbing up a cliff face reminds me of Mission Impossible 2.
Didn't know the people of Nimbus III were Guns N Roses fans. (Though the grass isn't green in this Paradise City)
I like this camping scene with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy.
The special effects when the Enterprise uses warp speed to get away from the Klingon attack aren't great, but so far, this movie is better than I expected given what I know of its reputation.
I always wonder how Morse code works if someone misses the start of the code.
I guess they can figure it out through context, but it seems easy to set up misunderstandings.
The scene with McCoy reliving his worst memory is heartbreaking.
I'm guessing the being claiming to be God is an alien criminal that was sealed away at the center of the galaxy.
The Bird of Prey's lasers clearly use the exact same sound effect as Star Wars.
The Klingon subplot was dealt with pretty suddenly haha.
When Kirk said he lost a brother, I thought he was referring to his brother who died in season 1 of TOS - I didn't consider that he was referring to Spock.
I didn't think it was nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe. Scotty, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov were underused, but Kirk, Spock, and McCoy were all handled well, and despite my concerns about Shatner directing the movie and being one of the writers, Kirk didn't overshadow everyone else.
At the very least, I'd put it above the original movie if I had to rank the TOS movies. (Though it's been years since I saw 4 or 6)
