the article was about some gamers on reddit being "upset" that the game is different from previous silent hill games...and like, yeah, that was the point?! Their stated intention was to make one that was at its core a silent hill game but one that took it in a somewhat different direction.
Even on story mode you're fairly squishy and vulnerable, and if you're not careful your weapons can break pretty easily. You generally don't gain anything from combat so the main play is to avoid it if you can so as to not waste health/resources, like any decent survival horror game
