For users who want to update before automatic updates:

Chrome

Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and press Enter
Turn on "Developer mode" using the toggle in the top right corner
Click the "Update" button that appears at the top
All extensions will check for and install any available updates
Turn "Developer mode" back off when done

Firefox

Type about:addons in the address bar and press Enter
Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the top right corner
Select "Check for Updates" from the menu
If updates are available, they'll download and install
You may need to restart Firefox for some updates to take effect

Alternative for Both Browsers

Uninstall the current version
Go to the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons site
Reinstall the extension (this will get the latest version)
Do not forget to export your accounts first if you choose to uninstall, so that you can reimport them

Note: Extensions typically auto-update within a few hours to a day after a new version is published, but these methods let users get updates immediately.

nautical: The initial build and ironing out those early kinks was nightmarish. It's not so bad now I have a good, stable version at least!

Also for any testers like me, make sure you update before you import. Not that it's a long process but did that in the wrong order and was somehow confused I didn't have the icons for characters XD

Oh I'm sure. I don't know how much it has to interact with at least DW's code but I know they're still detangling the old spaghetti garbage pile which helps nothing

nautical: Oh yeah I had to do some creative problem solving on a lot of things. Plus there's the pain of needing to make sure it works across IJ, DW and LJ which all have their own quirks. DW has APIs but they don't work the way you would expect because some stuff is still in development and has been for years. Now I have it figured out - all good

Kalineh: Also make sure you enabled them in the options menu

Kalineh: if you haven't already, you might also have to go into the journal genie settings, "Options", then toggle "Account Icons: Enable"

hmmm my icon links are getting a green check and i have all the settings enabled but im not seeing them appear in the pop up yet … maybe it will sort itself out on a reboot tho, i don’t seem to be getting any errors
