The End of History on Steam
The End of History on Steamthey just released the demo, and I'm smitten even from the start.
The combat controls are a bit jank, but I do love a good sandbox RPG. HOPEFULLY this becomes an epic game

airships?

I JUST BOUGHT YOU A DRINK, LADY

 YOU'RE
MARRIED, LADY!

ukifuneritsu: It's a weird low fantasy-ish setting, I have no idea what the fuck is going on and the English translation isn't polished enough for me to care for now

It's pretty jank overall. Like it's got the bones of a great game but right now it feels shallow and needs a lot of QOL touch-ups to appeal to a wider audience

also Boooo, the barmaid (and the other shop NPCs) has the same face in every town. I need to be able to flirt barmaids of different looks shakes fist

I'll just imagine that's what female knights tend to wear outside of combat

 Shame.
Oh you have a 18 year old daughter. AND she's your faction leader. Noted for when the full game's out and I can hopefully join your guild

it's still a demo so i guess they're still grabbing feedback for it.

"In this demo, you can experience the first two in-game years of the campaign, with the same systems as the full release." It's an interesting way to do a demo

If you enter a town with certain characters there are snippets of what they're like and they ask you if you want to put a pin on them so you could see where they are at all times in the world. Guessing it's to help you get in good with them/their faction

Damnit is no one single in this world?!

Oh wait I can kill NPCs in this game right?

 UWU WHAT'S THIS

ARE YOU HAVING SEX WITH AMELIA DAUM'S HUSBAND?! WHAT EVEN IS THIS TRADING COMPANY

What even is a fourth wall

I like that the main girl in their promo materials is a reputedly cruel princess of the corrupt empire who allegedly kills random pretty women cuz she's a jelly petty bitch.

but silver hair = I can fix her!

I legit love the artist though, here's their pixiv if you're into that:
 雌鹿
雌鹿
        it's the four guys meme!
except girls! XD

the artist has a really good painterly style~ :3

Reminds me oddly enough of Suikoden

also the whole "you can join a faction, or even become emperor"
...Also one of the faction leaders (the dude at the back of the promo shot) is basically the bad guy of Suikoden 2. His intro in-game is him testing out a new sword on a prisoner lol

Bandit leader is a hottie. Note to self: Find a way to join the bandits in the full version

2 year limit for the demo is too short. I
just joined her in rebelling against her dad

Got the demo back when you posted this. Can't even survive the tutorial fight

It has a lot to do with my skill, and my unfamiliarity with modern games, I suppose.

Nah whatever that janky combat is, it's definitely
not modern

chaosghost: You're telling me it's not my skill issue?

I feel they're trying to be FFT but with a more RTS bent, but IDK.

I still think it's a skill issue in my part though. I never was any good at stuff like Warcraft or Starcraft, or any of those kinds of games, which this game's battle system seems to be similar to? IDK.

It's like a shit version of Mount and Blade, tbh

You're not meant to go out on your own, and you're meant to kill the enemy leader because that ends the fight.
Also there's a potion that I'm pretty sure no one ever mentions you could take in combat

I see~ I feel I'd fail even more spectacularly with that game (Mount and Blade).
Wait, I can do that in the tutorial battle (End of History)? Though I tried flanking the enemy but I was like "WAIT, WHY ARE MY UNITS FOLLOWING ME? Go attack the other flank goddammit!"

Don't get the sequel Bannerlord. It's shit.

faramond: Nah end of history tutorial battle is basically: wait for the front lines to clash. Roll past it and wail on the named enemy to end the fight

Warband also has total conversion mods. Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Sex system

Though sex scenes on dated graphics is more funny than stimulating

but yeah, End of History needs a lot more added and improved before I can legit recommend it. Hopefully devs don't just disappear like with so many other sandbox games

chaosghost: Ah, thanks for the lowdown on the tutorial battle. that basically confirms I was doing something horribly wrong, and I chalk that up to a skill issue stemming from a lack of familiarity with that kind of a battle system.

If I can just do the story/exploration/talking parts without the battles, that'd be great for me. Or just have one of those Suikoden 2 like batttles, I guess. I'm even fine with an FFT-like battle system. Anything but RTS-like.

The system is also shit, like I said. The archers murder you if you're caught in the open, but using the shield is finicky and making it point in the right direction is a chore, the targeting system is also hella finicky and impossible to use in large battles cuz it randomly switches instead of going to the closest to you, etc

faramond: Oh if that's more your vibe then I bought a random indie game a long time ago that scratches that itch somewhat but I kinda dropped cuz I prefer more open sandboxes than having factions with campaigns
 Lost Technology on Steam
Lost Technology on Steam
I actually gave up in targeting things once the melee started, and got shot to death by the archers while trying to head straight to the enemy commander.

I failed to see how the battle system is shit because I mean, little base of comparison I suppose? I thought I'm just shit at it.

Thanks for the second recommend, that other one is heading straight to my wishlist.

Huh I might install lost technology again. When I bought it barely anything was translated

I loved the character designs in that one because it's almost blatantly Suikoden-esque

I was wondering why you were talking about the translations, but when I saw the sidebar, I saw there being subtitles for English and Japanese, so I guess the game was originally in Japanese huh? I really hope there's a fuller translation by now.

Yeah when I got it basically only the UI and one faction had its dialog translated into English

lmao looking into the news: "The Chronicle scenarios were translated by passionate fans.
Thank you very much for your hard work." Yay free labor

The fan translation community has always been like that tho. Some actually use that as a means for practicing their JP skills, so it's not as if it's a completely one-sided thing.

I'm not surprised it has fans too, it's a delightful lil' game (that is 80php when on sale) that's basically real time Suikoden army battles

Now I'm intrigued. And 80PhP is a good deal (but you'd have to wait for a sale, the original price isn't terrible too).
