aslksjksj god the contrast between the flashbacks of kiryu saving yuusei's life and the current kiryu trying to murder him gets me every time
also remember when that flashback of kiryu beating the security guy actually has him covered in blood
bc it kind of depends on the scene whether he's covered in blood or not
the funny thing is, whether or not he actually murdered that guy is kind of irrelevant, since we find out later HE BLEW UP SEVERAL FLOORS OF A BUILDING THAT DEFINITELY HAD PEOPLE IN IT

he probably could have tried a little harder to get out of that party on her birthday, but it's not like he didn't try at all, you know?
and then your kids suddenly slams you into a wall with a bunch of fire in the middle of a duel and starts glowing like. it's a stressful situation they they...definitely didn't handle well, but honestly, it's just a shitty situation all around
granted, once the shock is over, maybe you could reassure your kid who's just as scared as you are that they're not a monster...
i kind of get the impulse to send aki to duel academia too. idk how much of it was to get her out of their hair, but maybe they thought it might help her get it under control too

honestly, i like the rua vs demak duel
and i like ruka going on spirit world adventures

there's kind of an effort to make things cohesive. Demak summons Zeman not long after we see the real Zeman; Ruka gets to that forest right after Demak plays the field spell; etc
but it still kind of feels like they don't go together. idk

i think it's bc it feels more like it's a puzzle for ruka to solve than anything else
which is fine! i just wish it had been separated into two episodes each instead of going back and forth

it is nice seeing rua hold his own against demak - he's really grown a lot since that first duel with yuusei

this is definitely the best one of the four episodes
and not only bc Ruka's actually part of the duel now. but that's a lot of it lmao
anyway, i've been wondering if i had any canon basis for Demak maybe also hearing spirits or if i just pulled that out of my ass to make him more "negative-Ruka" and the answer is...
nothing contradicts it, and Zeman knows about him and calls him "Demak-sama" so. idk maybe i didn't entirely pull it out of my ass xD
it's hard to say without knowing whether spirits are aware of the people wielding their cards normally, even if that person can't hear them in return, but...it's good enough for me! haha
anyway, i really like watching ruka duel and i'm bummed she doesn't get too much
she's very precise, and she doesn't spend a lot of time thinking. which makes sense, given she supposed to be a genius at three or because of hearing card spirits or whatever
and especially in this duel, where she just want to kill demak and rescue AFD and get it over with as quick as possible
i know olesia mentioned it a gazillion time before, but it is so funny that everyone else has kind of mixed-feelings about fighting their DS & especially the killing them part
and ruka's just out here like 'yep, time for you to die now'
it helps when you don't know them personally. or at all.

i've watched this episode too many times lmao
so we get some flashbacks that we've already seen before right at the beginning...and the ones that come next episode kind of contradict them
like, what we get next episode is supposed to flesh them out, but what happens is also just. kind of different
idk if they were just making different writing decisions or if it was supposed to be like. here's what one of them remembers and here's what actually happened
but i do kind of wish they didn't show kiryu with the blood back-to-back with kiryu without the blood like that :/
kiryu fantasizing about having beaten that guy to death vs. yuusei actually came in and knocked him down before he could do that idk

honestly, i remembered the basic plot points of this episode much better
which is basically that rudger was the original Head signer, but he stared at the momentum too long and the EBGs latched onto him, which made him kind of go mad, rip his arm off, and blow up the city
yuusei of course has completely irrational guilt over his father being the one who created momentum in the first place
and at the end, rudger blows himself up and yuusei falls into the rainbows, where he gets backhanded by the ghost of his father either next episode or the one after
and also rex is very pretty and very creepy at the end too

also, technically, the subs say that if they DO activate the seals, shits gonna go down , which I definitely forgot.....
