So...Beni's getting close to the end of MOST of his meds, but the last week has been utter hell
He constantly kicked off his cone (he's pretty strong). Thankfully the vet let us stop using it Monday
But the pills for his antibiotics have been like ripping fingernails out through the root
I've tried coming at him at every possible angle, but he fights like I'm trying to murder him
Pill pockets dont work (and I know that its a cat-by-cat basis for those, since Medi loved them unless her gums were hurting pretty badly)
"Parfaiting" the pills into the food directly doesnt work....unless you pound them to dust (and even then, that was a last minute brainstorm just tonight. He's eating it thankfully, but he's so scared of mealtime I had to hunt him down to give him the food)
I just wish I didn't feel like I'm destroying his trust with every pill
I've lost so much sleep over the last 2 weeks because I'm so utterly scared of losing him
It came SO close because of the nature of this (if you havent seen a previous replurk, he had a pretty bad bladder blockage...was at the vet for a solid week)
I...guess I never did fully come to grips with losing Schroedie, if I had to think about it
and since me and Beni have gotten very close, I'm frightened beyond belief of losing another cat I've bonded so close with to something sudden
ok..he ate...the most of the pill...dunno if its near enough
He's back to the vet for a check tomorrow (along with Mighty needing her shots) so hopefully they'll have some insight
Morning update: the pill grinding has worked wonders. He ate his breakfast (albeit in a different room, but he's not fully hiding so Im ok with giving it to him there)
So im gonna take a hammer or something to his remaining pills and just portion them out via that so thingsll be prepped quick
Afternoon update: I almost punched my Dad in the face for being a delightful bag of dicks when i mentioned the vet bill (we are FINE financially BTW, and no I wont mention the cost here)
He implied the Old Yeller solution and he's lucky I did not lose it on him
Instead I calmly explained the situation and that we'd be ok....at the same time cursing enough to make Donald Duck blush in my head
I'm glad he's at least taking the pills after they've been ground out
It might be better to grind each pill one at a time, though? Mind you, I'm not an animal expert, but I just feel like this way, you can ensure you've got a better chance of a known, even dose each time
oh I'd be doing it still within the individualized sleeve they come in
if it were just the standard bottle yeah, one at a time
Ah, okay. Yeah, then that works. Also helps keep it all together
