i thought charlie hunnam was fantastic as well as laurie metclaff and alanna darby
there are some scenes involving charlie that genuinely unnerved me and i know people are ragging on his voice but that was allgedly how ed gein talked
i cannot say that this was a good show
it is genuinely all over the place
i know they tried to do this meta commentary of gein's crimes having an impact on pop culture, but a lot of it was just genuinely unncessary. the only one i liked was with alfred hitchcock talking to the person who wrote "psycho" and then hitchcock explaining to anthony perkins about ed gein's house
that was fairly interesting but that was the only time
and you can honestly depict a character with psychosis properly without making their delusions that fantastical
like the delusions of christine jorgenen were not needed and there's no historical proof of gein being fixated on her. which is a shame because alanna darby was great!! cool, you cast a trans woman to play a trans woman... and despite your best efforts, that was still pretty transphobic
not everyone is going to get the subtext of "actually, ed, that's not gender dysphoria, that's gynophillia"
and ed gein has only confessed to two murders, trying to shoehorn the death of four other people was not needed, that was so stupid
then towards the end where it fell off the rails? which sucks because the conversation ed has with his doctor was actually fantastic but it was ruined with all this and then trying to say ed gein helped catch ted bundy and richard speck was his fanboy??
that would have been great if this show expanded more on ed asking "is this why i do the things i do?"
ngl, i only started watching this because i wanted to see charlie hunnam play something creepy
i had some expectations but god damn, they're on the floor now
great acting, but terrible story telling, holy fucking shit
also, how do you, a gay man, produce something that also has a lot of internalized homophobia? ryan murphy, wtf
anyway, charlie should do more creepy roles and i want to see alanna darby do more work... she's a fantastic singer, too
also, the whole adeline story was stupid and unncessary, she's a mary sue
just bring back "mindhunter", jfc
i only made it through the first episode, the extended ilse koch scene was too out there for me. like what was that lmao
