"I had an image of what my life would be and nothing that's happened the past several years was in it."
they can be whatever they want now, grow antlers, learn telepathy, see what becomes of it and we can live precariously through them
Pfffff Æn'kae doesn't WANT to learn telepathy. He just gets to anyway
its not like Day made a conscious decision to get antlers XD
forest likes him and wants to help, there is spare magic energy, he doesnt quite want to be the only human at the gas station - well that can be fixed
Also? I don't plan on physical changes beyond telepathy (and even that not beyond what he was originally capable of, just left to his own devices he never woulda reached it). But like if physical changes and it didn't involve bird features in some way. I feel like I woulda messed up somewhere in symbolism XD
3 of 5 names involve birds. Romulan symbolism is 90% birds of prey
he can grow feathers if there ever is a body-change event
I'm just imagining him getting traits of a bird like "Oh yeah, the ability to vanish, totally normal bird of prey trait." "...where?! I need to avoid this place"
i cant give Day wings for all itd be hilarious with his name. the author cannot be trusted with math XD "Skyhunter" another book of hers (no confirmation on whether same universe) got ppl with artificial wings and oh boy are they giant plotholes
for starters, they are steel. and fold into the body so seamless you cant see. which'd be one thing, but the average wingspan is 40 feet
laughing though I def have a Romulan who is like obsessed with earth turkey vultures. She is CERTAIN that a human made them up to freak her out and she loves them.
i did the math once and even at an optimistic 1mm strength of steel it'd be like an extra 200 pounds of mass
ashfjaksfgfj yeah uhhh... unless magic, wings are a bit odd with a human frame just in general
like the way the muscles would work along the chest and everything
no magic, just science! we just take ppl off the streets and craft steel onto them
not to mention that 40 feet wingspan on an average sized human is a whole lot of sideways space needed
Hey uh. Hey Æn'kae. I'm not 100% sure how the ryill is used. I've only ever played a flute and a very simple lyre harp that didn't have KNOBS on it as well as strings. How dare you offer to teach it. Now I have to research more specifics.
given how unmusical i am, you are welcome to skip any specifics lol
I at least took both choir and band back in the elden days of the 90s
The lyre harp is closer if simpler, and I had that more recently (until Temar knocked it off a high shelf and split the body RIP)
i was forced to do lute, i had a xylophon, grandma tried with a terrible table harp, couldnt do piano bc short fingers and the only other instrument school offered was the melodica (which is like a accordion and flute having a bastard child)
My flute skills were not high. This had a lot to do with not practicing
i like a wide variety of music but i cannot recognize a note, let alone hold it
also my flute couldn't reach the highest notes, my best friend's (and constant chair flipper, we switched between last and second to last chair every test) flute couldn't hit the lowest notes. We know it was the flutes too because we once traded to see
and what Xochipilli offered to teach them was... the violin. which is a nice instrument but Day didnt want to spend months learning how to produce a note when he had 7+ years of education to catch up on
XD at least with this instrument you can ignore all the knobs and even chords and just do a basic melody working the strings.
they did consider a piano but didnt have the room for one
lyre harp. I'm just saying XD

small enough to hold and also provides individual string usage as an option
that's the specific type I had, there's smaller ones with fewer strings too. I've been debating replacing my busted one, I'd just need a place to store it where it wouldn't meet the same fate
they sure are neat instruments
Meanwhile Æn'kae is over here with the instrument Spock has in TOS
Hello Skisan feels. Just picturing tiny Æn'kae learning music from Skisan. All while Skisan knows the course of his life changed away from music because of his decision to help Æn'kae's people. And just, getting to include it back in with the kids he would never have met(Who might not even have survived) if he had just stuck with music.
Skisan has some pretty big flaws (some of which Kivea makes up for) he is stubborn, he doesn't really listen in a disagreement because he came to his view by logic so it's clearly right, he will make a choice for someone else's good without consulting them, and will keep secrets from them. But like also he's such a good and I love him
this has morphed from feels about Æn'kae's line to music, to feels about Æn'kae's parents mentors.
late night thought: Day probably can keep a beat perfectly, thanks to exposure to marching songs. and he will absolutely hate that fact if its ever pointed out
from the books all the music Republic had were like 1, marching song 2, ballad praising Our Glorious Elector 3, nightclub synthwave/electropop with no words
Æn'kae does well with rhythm too because it's a good tool for meditating so like, it was def a focus. A new purpose for Day's ability to keep a beat XD?
Therapeutic drum circle? XD
