I haven't watched much 50s sci-fi or horror; the only one I can think of is Creature From The Black Lagoon.

You can tell right away that John Carpenter was a fan of the title card but didn't care for the "From Another World!" part of the title.

This seems much more lighthearted than the 80s version; the dialogue is very snappy, the people at the second base are all alive, and there are two more women than in the Carpenter version.

I feel like a lot of the problems in this movie could be resolved if the humans' first instinct was to shoot and/or blow everything up.

The Thing in this movie is very different, but still a scary concept in its own right. It reproduces asexually through seeds, using blood as a food source.

The fire stunt is impressive but it seems like it would be terrifying to film.

Given the sheer amount of military people on the base, I figured there would be more deaths, even if they were off-screen. (There were only two deaths; three if you count the Thing)
