Mr terrific was one of the best parts of that movie
Especially because he came out of fucking nowhere
Who was a Mr. Terrific Fan before this came out?
(Probably plenty of comics fans but I sure didn't know anything about him)
I really do love the concept of Mr. Terrific, and I thought this was a great version of him.
The first one, Terry Sloane, was a guy who spent his entire life being absolutely unable to fail at anything. Rich. Brilliant. Multiple Olympic gold medals. He started to fall into despair because he had the "Alexander the Great" issue. "Alexander wept because there were no more lands to conquer".
Nothing could challenge him. All he wanted was something even a little difficult. He was about to kill himself out of the boredom and despair when he saw a man being mugged, intervened, and found a challenge in it. Then he talked to the mugger, who was just robbing the guy because a corrupt landlord had raised his rent and was about to evict his family.
And he found that goal he'd been seeking: to make the world a better and more fair place. That's why there's "Fair Play" on his jacket - he wants the world to be fair.
The current one, the one in the movie, Michael Holt, was similar in that he was so incredibly gifted, but he was also married and happy and had a kid on the way... until his pregnant wife was killed by a drunk driver. He was about to kill himself out of despair when the Spectre intervened and told him about Terry Sloane, and so he took up being Mr. Terrific.
The two met during some time-travel hijinx, too! Gotta find it, brb.
eh, don't seem to have it. But Mike asks Terry how he feels about a black man taking up the mantle of Mr. Terrific as they are fighting together in the late 1940s, and Terry grins and says, "What's important is someone's out there fighting for things to be fair. The fact someone cares is all I need to know about their heart."
He shows up in JLU but he has like four lines across the series
Extremely minor character
he's in a couple of the animated movies with a little more to do, but yeah he's never had a big role before
So then he shows up in the Justice Gang and I’m like “Mr Terrific? That’s a weirdass pull”
And then he did all THAT shit
about as weird as picking Guy Gardner for the group's Lantern, imo
yet they both work really really well here
honestly the movie had no business being as good as it was, but it was
i love how mr. terrific does the diving roll out of the barrier despite having absolutely no need to do that
I hope we get to see some of Mr Terrific's backstory and general character as things go on, because I didn't know any of that before this plurk, and it's really good stuff
idk if we need to include the Spectre though because that character is..........a lot for a lot of reasons and idk if it would work in a movie/TV franchise
Oh, yeah. (That was when Hal Jordan was the Spectre, and trying to change ol' Diet Plate from Vengeance to Redemption.)
I mean, it would be interesting to try to get him to work? But it would be a LOT of work.
it would certainly be cool to see, but...yeah
he's one of those ideas that only really works in the one medium, because in comics complexity for its own sake can be really cool
and it can get presented without being overwhelming, or taking too long
