Now, though humanity still hasn’t reached those legendary heights, we have built new kingdoms of our own
We have figured out how to forge steel and built great libraries
And occasionally, someone manages to resurrect something from the ruins of the tower that once connected us to the heavens, bringing forth ancient magics
Or buy some from the mysterious Voladores in their trade ships
Into this era, a small band of heroes get their hands on some mechs from the age of gods and find themselves at the center of a war for the fate of their entire world against foes they can barely comprehend
Hey guys I’m doing one more Lancer game
Hello yes you have my attention
Inspired very loosely by Vision of Escaflowne and The Stormlight Archive
Anyone think that sounds fun?
I went 'oh huh this seems neat' and then saw "the Voladores are somehow still a thing" and immediately needed to be in this game.
phainein: this is the game I was talking about
i had a very similar idea for my first attempt at gming
and i'm unbelievably happy to see it pop up again
this is EXACTLY my shit eric
Krasiao has a variety of kinds of humans, brought about by genetic engineering ancient magics
If you wanna be a furry or an orc or something that’s cool
anyways. here's my pitch: semi-feral child who grew up next to one of these ancient ruins containing a god's throne, and was functionally raised by it before someone found him* and put him into a society
*for now
very intense bond w/his god throne. it's unclear whether he's projecting sapience onto it or if it's smarter than it should be despite having nothing like a nhp demon or comp/con unit familiar inhabiting it
There will be swordfights, grand balls, assassins, airships, princesses, knights, sorcery, and oaths of vengeance
I'm thinking either repurposing my "former maidservant who had a near-death experience and is now convinced that she's a walking corpse, cannot be persuaded otherwise" idea or something More Sinister. : D
Plus whatever plot threads PCs bring with them
EchoDoctor: maybe the maidservant was close to
actually dying but got
healed by modern medical technology resurrected by ancient, mysterious magic in a ruin?
actually, eric, important question
how hard will we go on the border between hacking/HORUS tech in general and Actual Fucking Magic being incredibly blurry in this game
delphicxix: My original pitch for her was that she straight-up has
Cotard's syndrome due to brain damage from almost dying/possibly being medically dead for a hot second there.
So definitely very possible!
oh fuck fuck fuck fuck Lancer game FUCK.
I don’t think there will be wizards casting magic missile
i'm in favor of at least the distinction being incredibly fucking blurry
But like there might be prophecies and shit
there are canonical prophecies in the lancerverse
see: early karrakin history
I’m not even sure if this is actually the lancerverse
here's my pitch: people cannot cast magic missile. however, pilots of hacking god thrones can do some Weird Magic Shit even outside of their cockpits. pilots of physical god thrones are stronger and more agile than what should be possible, etc.
this odd link between pilots and mechs might have something to do w/the golden age and why you can find a shitton of mechs lying everywhere
it's part of the setting's mystery
I’m inclined against it but I shall think about it
I don't even care which universe this is at this point, it sounds awesome.
...And I really want an excuse to pilot a Gorgon.
okay here is my vision: A Barbarossa with Nanocarbon Sword, levels in Executioner and Vanguard. Big Mech With Big Sword.
that's just to start, I need to refine it obviously.
SamuraiMarmoset: you could always take gyges frame and slap it on a blackbeard if you want Big Mech
Barbarossa with Gyges frame
btw. i've been using "god throne" as a placeholder but we should figure out a cooler name for mechs and pilots than "mech" and "pilot"
to add to the mystique/fantasy vibe
sorry for getting overly excited in your plurk but this is exactly the shit i love
delphicxix: I was trying to think of something other than mech but nothing occurred to me in the moment
God Throne isn’t terrible
"god throne" and "heir" maybe?
Or divine armor, maybe. Scans better.
Divine Armor, worn/piloted by Knights
Lancers are particularly elite knights
Lancer evoking a mounted, armored knight- lances, jousting, etc.
okay, Cobalt helped me come up with some mech designs and I think I have a character concept in mind. A beast demihuman with cat features who's early life was marred by tragedy and bigotry, and is still carrying a lot of anger over it and gets a mech (an Enkidu specifically) that lets her weaponize that anger.
Nariya/Eriya if Folken didn't swoop in to save them at the last moment and only one of them survived that tumble into the chasm.
For now I think the answer to "Is this the official Lancerverse setting with Union and HA and all that shit?" is
Refining the concept: She only thinks her twin sister is dead and has been simmering in that anger for over a decade or so, but there's an enemy knight in a white Orchis determined to slay the Black Knight and guess who the pilot is?
oh...maybe I should try to think up a character to pitch...
For anyone doing builds already: until I come to a full decision, please limit your options to stuff from the core book, KTR field guide, Long Rim, and Wallflower
