obv have wifi, will bring my tech, but i have busy days so less tags / attention
overnight bus there sunday (lets see if i can still sleep in those)
monday nautical museum and microbe museum (listen i have odd interests, if you are here you know that already). possible world/tropical museum too, if i aint too tired
tuesday Rijksmuseum (art), wednesday Stedeljikmuseum (modern art). i hope that latter got some 19th century arctic expedition paintings, i love those...
thursday i'll probably take the train over to whatever gets me closest to a North Sea beach. i have not been to that ocean yet and i'll be damned if i dont bring a found rock back from vacation this time
friday i can just wander the city, then overnight bus back
one yarn shop planned, but thats right around my hotel, so i can pop in wheneve. gotta still plan out what patterns to browse for...
oh i will! got to take all sorts of pics, acquire art for my walls and walk canals with old houses. (very waterproof jacket has already been acquired)
Oooh! Do you still have a day left to plan stuff? Because I would highly recommend the Efteling. It's about an hour away from Amsterdam by train, I think, but it's one of the best, most immersive theme parks in Europe, basing itself around fairytales and folklore.
that does look lovely, but given i am scared of about everything that is a theme park ride, i'll pass on that this time. but i'll point my sister there, she is currently living near Hannover and enjoys all the adrenaline-inducing stuff
Oh, that's a shame! There's not that many rollercoasters, it's also a lot of slow dark rides, shows and a 'fairytale forest' walkthrough. But if anything remotely theme park ride is offputting, I guess that also takes all the dark rides with animatronics out of the equation.
yeah, i tried when school took us to the local theme park, but i just spend all the time anxiously imagining all the ways these things could have accidents
I have arrived! ... With very little sleep. Night bus warm and comfy, distracted by rpg lol
Suitcase is safely deposited in a locker and I am very glad to have invested into a certified waterproof jacket
Welcome to the Netherlands, we have rain!
And I have had coffee and sugar. Bless Dunkin donuts. My brain just keeps short-circuiting at hearing dutch. I understand enough it registers as "should be able to parse it" but then I don't and feel like I lost that ability to use words lol
... I've been more or less awake since 4am yesterday so I'll just blame that
... I'm not telling mum that my hotel is very much in the red light district lol
There are a lot of kindergardeners in this museum
i do need to figure out still what to do friday - checkout is 11am, but bus isnt till 9pm. so like, deposit suitcase, lunch, ???, dinner, bus. maybe i'll just do the Wereldmuseum there, instead of slotting it in at any of the afternoons
Half a museum later and now I know for sure that what I like best are romantic landscape paintings lol
Gotta scour the gift shop for some prints later
print acquired! Henrik Voogd, Italian Landscape
my feet and back say that museum kilometers count double however...
also i know this is an expensive city and i know macaroons are an ass to make but 3 bucks apiece????
looking through my camera roll i think i missed the whole van gogh wing lmao
(note for tomorrows museum: take floorplan at beginning of visit, not end)
takeaway from the contemporary art museum: i do not understand nor like art done after 1900. they had a nice bonus photography exhibition at least, but i cant show pics bc nothing in there was sfw
tomorrow is rest day (meaning i only hit up the yarn store and see if i can find anywhere here that sells gemstones, then wander about till i see something appealing to eat)
i have found a gemstore that even is the same direction as the yarnstore. problem? it doesnt open till 1pm
yarn got. pralines (bonbons) too, by happenstance. park was too cold to draw but i got some reading in
will have to head out again for dinner, but given there are two dozen asian restaurants in the near area i shall not lack lol
no gemstones tho bc appearantly they shant be seen till afternoon and i didnt want to wait or walk all the way back there. might try again tomorrow, depending on how much time i got to kill before the bus
aand i've been in the red light district. in the dark, with ppl at display. still not the audience and this isnt half as bad of an area as its made out. (also the bordering chinatown has great food)
Aight, suitcase deposited. I can now gander the city for the next ten hours
Bus home. Not me here wondering for 20 minutes why my face feels uncomfortable (glasses. It's the glasses not yet put off)
