Like I know the basics and at one level I have too much to say--literal PAGES of evidence and quotes
but on the other I don't have the huge important theoretical framework to glue it together.
It's mostly Jeffrey Jerome Cohen and monster theory and a little Judith Butler so it feels very old school?
I've been reading a recent book on the theory of the topic and I'm like...meh?
LIke I've got The Transhuman Antihero in front of me and I'm like...disappointed?
like in the chapter on Watchmen it's like So Yeah Dr Manhattan Doesn't Follow Human Morality and I'm like...no shit??
For real this is the conclusion of the entire book: "These paradoxical protagonists, along with the social realities in which they exists, provides (sic) an alternative medium for the exploration of the dynamic and complex relationship between individuals, society, and technoscientific development.
further such characters also offer new insight into the crisis of identity as well as the generalized fear and anxiety surrounding the emergence of transhuman theory and the possibility of transhuman individuals
What a lot of words to say absolute crap Let's translate: These guys are complicated and reflection of the worlds they exist in and maybe they show that we're a little nervous about the future'
this is a goddam published book why am I stressing my conference paper which already has more guts to it?
(my paper is about the way some things in a random canon problematize various aspects of masculinity by showing something monstrous as valorous and valorous as monstrous)
Sorry for barfing but sometimes you just need to barf to get clarity
I hate this academia thing where you say something entirely self evident and fluff it up with so many vague terms (like that conclusion) so that it sounds grandiose but it's fucking meaningless,
As opposed to 'the blood angels represent the moment in masculinity where violence crosses the line from a masculine positive to a negative, indicating the keen need for as much violence as control.' Like..that says something?
